The Robert M. Berne Cardiovascular Research Center was established to expand basic, translational, and clinical research of cardiovascular diseases, including congestive heart failure, hypertension, atherosclerosis, stroke, aneurysms, and vascular autoimmune diseases. These diseases are among the leading causes of death and disability in the United States and account for a substantial portion of deaths and health care costs. The mission of the Robert M. Berne Cardiovascular Research Center is to support interdisciplinary research in basic, translational, and clinical cardiovascular sciences, including cardiovascular development, function, pathophysiology, pharmacology, genetics, genomics, and proteomics, and to apply this knowledge to better understand the causes of cardiovascular diseases and to pioneer development of new therapies and approaches to prevent or treat them. Position Summary

The Robert M. Berne Cardiovascular Research Center (CVRC) at the University of Virginia (UVA) School of Medicine is seeking a Research Associate (post-doctoral research fellow), MD or PhD, to work in an NIH-funded laboratory directed by Dr. Jonathan Lindner. The laboratory combines biology and non-invasive imaging and includes a multidisciplinary team with expertise in vascular biology, non-invasive imaging, microvascular physiology, and acoustic physics. Research focuses on: (a) molecular imaging to characterize pathophysiology and assess therapy for atherosclerotic, vascular, and valvular disease; (b) microvascular function and endothelial abnormalities in insulin resistance, heart failure, and radiation exposure; (c) microvascular responses to acute and chronic myocardial and limb ischemia; (d) ultrasound-based therapies involving site-targeted gene or drug delivery and vascular bio-effects of cavitation. The mission is to support interdisciplinary research in basic, translational and clinical cardiovascular sciences, including cardiovascular development, function, pathophysiology, pharmacology, genetics, genomics, and proteomics, and to apply this knowledge to better understand the causes of cardiovascular diseases and to pioneer development of new innovative therapies and approaches to prevent or treat them. Responsibilities

Full-time research or scholarship at the University Note: Research Associate positions are for candidates who have obtained their PhD within the past 3 years. Candidates who have received or will receive their terminal degree between 2022 and 2025 are eligible to apply. Supervised by a senior scholar; and allows the appointee to publish the results of his/her research or scholarship In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned Minimum Qualifications

Education: Doctoral degree Preferred Qualifications

Experience in vascular biology, microscopy, ultrasound imaging, murine models of disease, and human cardiovascular imaging is preferred. Physical Demands

This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job may require traveling some distance to attend meetings and programs. Position Type & Work Location
