Position Information Job Title Job Title Open Rank Tenure/Tenure-Track Professor of Counseling Psychology Position Number Position Number 997454 Department Salary $60,000 - $90,000 Job Summary/Description The Department of Psychology at Angelo State University ( ASU ) invites applications for an Assistant, Associate, or Professor position in Counseling Psychology for a 9-month tenure track or tenured position beginning August 2025. Administrative leadership opportunities are available for senior candidates. The ASU Counseling Psychology program currently has an established Master of Science in Counseling Psychology (M.S.), and a Doctor of Psychology in Counseling Psychology (Psy.D.) program, started in 2022.

We are seeking applicants qualified to teach doctoral-level graduate courses in counseling psychology, with an emphasis on a practitioner-scientist model of training. Applicants should have strong competency in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and other empirically supported models of treatment. Areas of research and specialization are open within the broad domains of counseling, clinical, or school psychology. We encourage applicants from all backgrounds to apply for this position and join a program already represented by a diverse group of faculty members with an array of research interests. We especially encourage applicants who have been in practice and are interested in joining academia. Applicants who are ABD will be considered if the degree can be completed within the first year of appointment. Typical Duties/Job Duties Responsibilities include teaching undergraduate psychology courses and graduate courses in the Counseling Psychology M.S. and Psy.D. programs. The majority of courses for these programs are face-to-face classes, requiring in-person performance of job duties in San Angelo, TX. The candidate will display evidence of a commitment to science-based practice and teaching, and to training practitioners in empirically supported treatments.

Other responsibilities include providing student mentorship, including the direction of theses and dissertations; conducting research in areas of the candidate’s interests; advising students; providing service to the Counseling Psychology program, the department, and the university; and assisting with accreditation processes, including APA accreditation for the Psy.D. program.

Applicants must be able and willing to teach graduate courses in the afternoon and evening. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Applicants should have the necessary skills, expertise, and interest in graduate-level teaching in clinical/counseling psychology, as well as expertise in science-based practices and the training of practitioners in empirically supported treatments.

Applicants should have the ability to provide training and supervision related to the clinical/counseling skills needed for student practitioners desiring to become licensed professional counselors, licensed psychological associates, or licensed psychologists.

Applicants should have the interest and expertise in conducting research related to the field of counseling psychology, and the passion and ability to guide undergraduate and graduate student research.

A record of scholarship, consistent with academic rank, or potential for scholarship, and strong teaching and supervisory skills are preferred.

Minimum Qualifications A doctoral degree in Counseling Psychology, Clinical Psychology, or School Psychology, from an accredited psychology program. ABD will be considered if the doctorate can be completed within the first year of employment.

Currently a licensed psychologist (in Texas or another state with the ability to transfer their license to Texas) or eligible to become licensed as a psychologist in Texas within the first three years of hire.

A record of scholarship or potential for scholarship, and strong teaching and supervisory skills. Preferred Qualifications Experience with training in a science-based practitioner program, and evidence of a commitment to empirically supported treatments are strongly preferred.
