Overview
UNIV - Dosimetry Badge Program Coordinator - URM Workplace Health and Safety at MUSC Health. Under the supervision of the Radiation Safety Officer or Assistant RSO, manage and coordinate the radiation monitoring badge program for MUSC and MUHA. Process Authorized User and Principal Investigator radioactive material license applications and renewals. Maintain and monitor requests for access to areas containing materials in quantities of additional concern. Perform or assist in general radiation safety inspections. Responsibilities
30% - Manage and coordinate the radiation monitoring badge program for MUSC Enterprise as the Dosimetry Badge Coordinator. Act as liaison between badge vendor and MUSC; conduct ongoing training for dosimeter coordinators; ensure all 3200+ badges are delivered to badge coordinators on a monthly, quarterly, and semi-annual basis; ensure badges are received and shipped in a timely manner. Review records according to badge wearer frequency with email notices to wearers and coordinators per Radiation Safety, DHEC, and TJC standards. Maintain the dosimetry database with activation/deactivation of badges. Serve as the point of contact for High Dose Notifications. 25% - Maintain a log of lost radiation badges and track repeat occurrences; advise individuals and process paperwork for those declaring as pregnant radiation workers. Send annual radiation dose summaries to personnel. Obtain and upload radiation dose histories for individuals with prior exposure to the badge vendor database in compliance with SC DHEC and NRC regulations. Provide monthly dosimetry compliance reports to senior leadership, TJC, DHEC, and CAPPS. 20% - Collaborate with MUSC Enterprise to maintain SC DHEC, Joint Commission, and CAPPS records and inspections across campuses. Complete Radiation Inspections for external clinics and on-campus sites; report to Verge monthly. Ensure licenses for radioactive material and new equipment are up to date and signed by the RSO. File compliance certificates for Radiation Producing Operators within Safety Protocols. Assign and track training for Radiation Producing Device users and Radioactive Material users; ensure training and certificates comply with regulations. Ensure annual training for Radiation Oncology and Irradiator Users is current. Collect fingerprint data and request Increased Controls per NRC requirements. Coordinate with Human Resources on annual radiation exposure calculations. 15% - Perform or assist in other Radiation Safety duties as directed, including maintenance of records, advising on regulations for medical lasers, inventory updates, assisting in preparing rooms for 131I patients, and participating in radioactive waste removal with DOT-compliant quotes. Perform radioactive wipe tests of nuclear medicine areas, record results, and maintain a calibration schedule for meters. Monitor lead apron database for monthly survey compliance. Assist the Laser Safety Officer and ensure accurate laser inventories on campus. 10% - Serve as a member of the Emergency Response Team, performing on-call and trouble-shoot duties as assigned; has OSHA 1910.120 training. Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma and three years of experience in environmental health programs or radiologic health. A bachelor's degree in natural/physical sciences, mathematics, public health, engineering, or related technical field may substitute for two years of experience. Some positions require a valid driver’s license and/or specialized courses in health physics or certification as a health physicist. Physical requirements: ability to perform job functions in upright and seated positions, walk, climb stairs/ladders, work indoors and outdoors, lift up to 50 lbs, operate in dusty or confined spaces, and perform fine motor tasks. Ability to obtain and maintain a valid driver’s license; computer literacy; ability to work odd shifts and overtime; willingness to learn new processes and tools. Additional Information
