Training Specialist (Inst Advancement Consultant) at Indiana University, HANDS in Autism. The role provides direct programming, training, education, consultation, and support for individuals, families, and providers, aligning with HANDS’ data-driven, community-informed philosophy. Responsibilities
Reports to HANDS leadership and serves on project teams focused on education, training, and programming/resource navigation. Optimize understanding, application, and implementation of evidence-based practices for individuals with autism spectrum disorder and related disabilities. Conduct ongoing HANDS workshops and intensive trainings for diverse audiences and stakeholders. Develop and maintain procedures, accessible materials, and supports to ensure readiness and engagement for events. Develop and implement schedules and materials (e.g., art/crafts, jobs, academic, movement, sensory) for participants in HANDS trainings. Develop training materials and conduct trainings in response to requests aligned with evidence-based practices and settings (schools, colleges, medical settings, communities, families). Contribute to updates of tools supporting implementation of practices available through HANDS website and store. Contribute to HANDS newsletters, online communities, and weekly practical pointers for outreach and education. Carry out assessments, inform goals, and facilitate ongoing data monitoring for referred individuals or collaborative sites. Provide intervention and programming services for referred individuals and module-based learning for partners. Provide a range of consultation and direct services at sites and in the community as applicable. Allocate time to support Open Office Hours or Learning Lab reservations as part of HANDS offerings. Support resource exploration and navigation for internal and external partners and teams. Update tools, resource sheets, and learning materials for referred individuals across the lifespan. Track notes and communications with HANDS administrative, operational, and research teams; provide timely reports to caregivers, referral sources, and providers. Support partnered projects across local, regional, state, or funded efforts; serve as SME for ongoing or new material development. Collaborate with HANDS leadership to share ideas and needs that optimize work and development. General Responsibilities
Serve as liaison to stakeholders in public and private sectors on partnership opportunities. Initiate and maintain frequent interactions with partners to ensure strong collaboration. Develop knowledge of initiatives, programs, and partner needs to connect with university and external resources. Act as a community resource, providing technical assistance and ensuring clear communication to optimize project outcomes. Identify funding needs and participate in developing external proposals with education and outreach components. Communicate partner expectations with unit leadership to operationalize project outcomes; support timely delivery of logistics, budgets, and related functions. Determine and track key project metrics and assist with analysis and reporting. May provide guidance to lower-level Institutional Advancement Consultants. Note: Combinations of related education and experience may be considered. Education beyond the minimum required may be substituted for work experience, and vice versa. Education and Experience
Required: Bachelor's degree in a related field. Preferred: Master’s degree in special education, psychology, social work, or related mental health/behavioral health field. Required: 2 years of experience in outreach, engagement, public relations, or related field. Preferred: 1 year of experience working with individuals with disabilities or supporting families, caregivers, or providers. Licenses, Certificates, and Skills
Preferred: License or license eligibility in education, behavior analysis, social work, etc.; valid driver’s license with IU-insurance eligibility. Required: Proficient communication, professionalism, time management, accuracy, and adaptability in a fast-paced environment; ability to represent the organization externally; willingness to learn; strong record-keeping and confidentiality. Preferred: Positive, strength-based perspective; lifelong learning mindset; knowledge of software tools; ability to plan projects under supervision; initiative and independence; teamwork; professional presentation; clear written communication; sound judgment under pressure; support for difficult clients/families; confidentiality and ethics. This role requires the ability to communicate effectively and operate a computer and standard office equipment.
