Overview
The Advanced Practice Provider (NP/PA/APP) in the Surgical Trauma Intensive Care Unit (STICU) and Surgical Intermediate Care Unit (SIMU) at UVA Health is a full-time role (40 hours/week) with rotating 12.5-hour shifts, including days, nights, weekends, and holidays, supported by a self-scheduling model. The APP will evaluate and treat surgical and trauma patients, perform bedside procedures, and contribute to learner education. Ideal candidates will demonstrate strong critical thinking, communication, clinical judgment and medical decision-making, and be effective team players. This position offers the opportunity to bill for evaluation and management services within UVA Health System. Minimum Requirements Education:
Graduate of an accredited graduate school of nursing or physician assistant program with a master’s degree. Experience:
Department and unit specific. Licensure:
License or license eligible as an Advanced Practice Provider (Nurse Practitioner, Physician Assistant, Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist, and Certified Nurse Midwife) as set forth by the state of Virginia. If Nurse Practitioner, license to Practice as a Registered Nurse in Virginia is required. Must maintain credentialing and licensing requirements of UVA Health System and applicable boards. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) required. Current PALS/NRP as required. ACLS as required for position. Other:
Demonstrated credentialing and licensing with UVA Health System, Virginia Boards, and certifying bodies. Physical & Other Requirements:
Standing for prolonged periods; bending/stooping; reaching; repetitive motion (keyboard); ability to lift/pull 50-100 lbs; ability to work in a high-acuity environment. May be exposed to noise, radiation, blood/body fluids and infectious disease. Responsibilities
Work with medical director, administrative management, nursing and interprofessional team to facilitate patient care and management across the health care system. Exercise independent judgment in assessment, diagnosis, and initiation of medical processes and procedures as credentialed by UVA Health System. Perform and document comprehensive health histories and physical assessments; initiate CPR or emergency therapy as needed. Formulate diagnoses, identify problems and health risk profiles, and communicate findings to the health care team. Perform, order, and interpret diagnostic studies (e.g., x-rays, labs) in consultation with peers. Perform procedures within scope of practice and UVA credentialing/privileges; order medications and therapies per Virginia prescriptive regulations. Request consultations and initiate referrals to other providers when needed. Evaluate patient responses to disease processes and therapies. Educate patients and families about disease processes and treatment plans; facilitate communication with the care team. Participate in on-call responsibilities as determined by the department. Manage patients following UVA Medical Center and UVA UPG policies and procedures. Report births, deaths, outbreaks, and other information to relevant authorities as required. Meet quality standards as determined by Medical Director and UVA Health System. May serve on select committees and participate in clinical experiences for students and residents. Participate in peer review and other quality activities as requested. Prepare and attend to reports, claims, and correspondence related to professional services. Promote the professional practice of the advanced practice group as a clinical resource to nursing, medical and allied health staff. Follow policies and procedures of UVA Medical Center, CMS and contracted payers. Accurately assign CPT and ICD-10 codes. Maintain practice through continuing education and professional development. Perform other duties as assigned relevant to licensed independent provider. Position Details

Base pay range is $98,841.60/yr - $158,142.41/yr. Schedule:
