Department context: The UNC Ophthalmology Department provides comprehensive and subspecialty ophthalmic care, education through residency and fellowships, and collaboration with related UNC centers and schools. Position Summary The School of Medicine at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill seeks an accomplished and visionary leader to serve as Chair for the Department of Ophthalmology. This recruitment is Open Track/Open Rank; the appropriate track and rank will be determined once the top candidate is selected. The department aims to provide high-quality clinical care, pioneer new approaches to eye disease, and educate the next generation of ophthalmologists. The department includes divisions, programs, and internal clinical research units and collaborates with UNC Gene Therapy Center, Lineberger Cancer Center, Carolina Nanomedicine Institute, UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy, and UNC Gillings School of Global Public Health. Our clinical programs serve patients across North Carolina with comprehensive and subspecialty ophthalmic care including retina, glaucoma, cornea and external disease, oculoplastics, neuro-ophthalmology, pediatric ophthalmology, and uveitis. Our residency program is three years, ACGME-accredited, with fellowships in cornea, glaucoma, and vitreoretinal diseases. The Carolina Eye Research Institute supports translational gene therapy research; the department emphasizes collaboration between clinicians and basic scientists. This recruitment is Open Track/Open Rank; the top candidate will also hold a secondary EHRA Non-Faculty administrative appointment as Department Chair.
