Special Education Teacher - Visually Impaired/Orientation and Mobility (Districtwide) role at
Juneau City School District . Location: Districtwide, Student Services Department | Employment type: Full-time (1.0 FTE) Responsibilities
Work closely with students, families and special education teams at multiple schools to support student achievement and provision of services. Contribute to a dynamic and innovative team to enhance the educational program within the school and district. Demonstrate excellent assessment and diagnostic skills as well as skills in IEP development and progress monitoring. Deliver SPED professional development in a variety of research-based strategies. Facilitate challenging/mediated IEP meetings to reach appropriate educational programs focused on students. Minimum Requirements
Bachelor\'s or Master\'s degree in education or special education (must possess a minimum of 30 college credits in special education). Valid Alaska teaching certificate with an endorsement in special education - visually handicapped and/or orientation and mobility. Candidate must have credential for Teacher of Visually Impaired and Orientation and Mobility. Recent experience managing large caseloads with a variety of exceptionalities. Flexibility to work with colleagues and community members in multiple settings. Knowledge of current best practices in special education and of teaching strategies for diverse students. Ability to engage with parents and demonstrate appreciation for parental concerns. Behavior management skills. Skills facilitating IEP meetings to reach appropriate educational programs. Experience delivering SPED professional development. Knowledge of Alaska state SPED laws and procedures. Excellent interpersonal skills promoting positive relationships with students, parents and colleagues. Preferred Requirements
Master\'s Degree in special education preferred. Recent experience teaching special education and general education. Understanding of IDEA requirements.
