Job Description Summary
The Lead Metrology Engineer will play a key role in programming and optimizing Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMMs) to support the manufacturing of Ceramic Matrix Composite (CMC) components at GE Aviation Asheville. Primary programming will utilize PC-DMIS software and Hexagon CMMs, with additional work involving Quindos and other software tools. This role encompasses writing, editing, troubleshooting, validating, and improving CMM programs to ensure precise measurement of aerospace components. The Lead Metrology Engineer will collaborate closely with Operations, Quality Engineering, and Machining Process Engineering to meet compliance standards and production requirements. They will also communicate inspection methodologies and oversee process monitoring in alignment with production schedules. Proficiency in reading and interpreting drawings and prints using Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) principles is essential. Job Description
Essential Responsibilities: Develop and optimize CMM programs using PC-DMIS and Quindos software, leveraging both CAD models and prints. Lead and manage the implementation of inspection processes for new products and design changes, from fixture procurement to production-ready program rollout. Interpret and apply advanced GD&T principles to ensure dimensional accuracy and compliance. Create planning documents, processes, and work instructions while providing proactive support to meet manufacturing needs. Troubleshoot and validate CMM/PC-DMIS programs, conduct GR&R studies, and verify results using multiple techniques. Adhere to system standards for development, implementation, and change management of metrology processes. Work independently and collaboratively to identify needs and develop validation plans. Coordinate with cross-functional teams to ensure programming milestones align with project timelines. Provide technical mentorship and guidance to other engineers within the department. Qualifications/Requirements: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university (or a High School Diploma / GED with a minimum of 4 years of experience in Manufacturing) Minimum of 3 years of experience in Manufacturing & Production Process and Equipment Desired Characteristics: Humble: respectful, receptive, agile, eager to learn. Transparent: shares critical information, speaks with candor, contributes constructively. Focused: quick learner, strategically prioritizes work, committed. Advanced knowledge of GD&T and its application in inspection routines to meet print specifications. Strong mathematical, analytical, writing, and communication skills. Knowledge and experience with CAD-based inspection using PC-DMIS. Ability and willingness to support a 24x7 manufacturing facility, able to pivot and adapt to changing needs. Strong collaboration and presentation skills to effectively communicate program/process implementation. Programming or scripting experience (C++, C#, Python, etc.). Experience with point cloud-based inspection using GOM hardware and GOM Inspect software. Knowledge and experience with similar programming software like Quindos, Calypso, etc. Previous high-volume manufacturing shop experience in Metrology / Inspection discipline. Self-starter – quick learner and able to identify alternative solutions for optimum results.
