ASRC Federal Communications is seeking a Heavy Equipment Mechanic – Emergency Vehicle Technician (EVT) to support our Air Force customer under the ISS2 contract at Eareckson Air Station (EAS), located on Shemya Island in Alaska’s Aleutian chain.

This is a rotational position: employees work 3 months on-site followed by 1 month off unpaid. While on-site, housing and meals are provided, and transportation is furnished from Anchorage to EAS via government-sponsored aircraft (employees are responsible for their own travel to Anchorage).

What You’ll Do

Perform preventive maintenance, diagnostics, and repairs on fire vehicles, heavy fire apparatus, emergency equipment, and light-to-heavy trucks (up to Class 8).

Service and repair engines, transmissions, hydraulics, electrical and pneumatic systems, and fire pumps.

Ensure vehicles and equipment meet DOT and NFPA standards.

Respond to emergency callouts and perform field repairs in challenging conditions.

Operate shop tools and heavy equipment (cranes, welders, lifts, diagnostic systems).

Maintain accurate service records and manage parts/supply needs.

Support the fire department fleet and assist the Vehicle Maintenance team.

Physical Requirements

Ability to lift/move heavy parts and work outdoors in extreme Alaskan conditions.

Comfortable with climbing, crawling, and performing physical tasks daily.

Willingness to live and work in a remote, rotational environment.

Basic Qualifications

High school diploma or GED.

5+ years as an Emergency Vehicle Technician (EVT) or 6+ years as a vehicle mechanic with the ability to certify as an EVT.

Strong knowledge of diesel engines, fire pumps, hydraulics, electrical and pneumatic systems.

Familiarity with NFPA (National Fire Protection Association) standards and DOT (U.S. Department of Transportation) compliance.

Must be able to pass a pre-employment physical, drug test, and fingerprinting.

Ability to obtain a National Agency Check with Inquiries (NACI).

Valid U.S. driver’s license with acceptable driving history.

U.S. citizenship required (for facility credentials).

Preferred Qualifications

EVT (Emergency Vehicle Technician) or ASE (National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence) certifications.

Technical school training.

Experience with manufacturers such as Oshkosh, Pierce, E-One, KME, Ford, International, or Freightliner.

Prior overseas or remote work experience.
