Overview
The role of the Technician is to manage and perform startup activities and system performance evaluations on new construction and existing building projects of all types. This includes documenting pre-functional activities and maintaining action item lists. The Technician will be an integral part of the final Commissioning team, participating in point-to-point system checkout, functional testing, and resolving operational deficiencies identified during these processes. Responsibilities
Complete project reviews with the commissioning officer before starting a project. Manage and perform startup activities on various project types and sizes. Document all pre-functional activities in our paperless commissioning documentation systems. Maintain a current action item list within our documentation systems. Communicate job status daily with the project management team and report issues impacting progress or schedule. Assist with equipment and system startup scheduling. Maintain startup crew manpower to adhere to project schedules. Coordinate with vendors or factory representatives to repair manufacturer defects. Mentor commissioning apprentices in their duties. Troubleshoot system problems, propose solutions, and manage resolutions. Assist Test and Balance teams and manufacturers’ representatives in resolving performance-impacting issues. Supervise other technicians and apprentices as applicable. Coordinate with other trades to keep construction on schedule. Support senior technicians with commissioning activities as needed. Requirements
Minimum 5 years of experience in commercial HVAC mechanical equipment startup or service. High school diploma or GED. Technical degree in HVAC/R or related field. Ability and willingness to travel up to 25% of the time. Valid Georgia driver’s license and a clean driving record. CFC certification. Preferred Qualifications
Experience in construction industry, especially with mechanical or controls contractors. At least 2 years managing mechanical work. Experience servicing boilers and chillers. Knowledge of pneumatic and DDC controls. Experience with commissioning new and existing building projects. MCAA 40-hour foreman training. OSHA 30 certification. Self-starter capable of working independently or in teams. Strong leadership, motivation, and adaptability to customer needs. Excellent communication skills. Solid reasoning, math, science, and technical skills. Professional appearance and conduct. Efficient time management and goal orientation. Knowledge of major HVAC equipment, including large air handling units, cooling towers, and chillers. Ability to effectively run a startup crew. Capacity to manage multiple priorities. Working Conditions and Physical Efforts
Moderate exposure to environmental elements like temperature extremes, dust, and noise. Potential exposure to construction hazards, requiring safety precautions. Primarily walking, standing, and lifting loads up to 50 pounds. Extensive local and occasional out-of-town travel to job sites and customer locations.
