Austin Veterinary Emergency and Specialty Center (AVES)
is seeking veterinarians passionate about working in emergency medicine for our training and mentorship program. We are looking for individuals who are team oriented, driven, reflective, and reliable to train with us and transition into an ER position at AVES. The
ER Immerse Program
will prepare veterinarians for a sustainable and satisfying career in emergency medicine. Built from the ground up to be different than traditional rotating internship programs, the ERi program has been developed around a curriculum of core competencies essential for an emergency veterinarian. In addition to providing training around clinical knowledge and skills, the program also includes a focus on client and team member communication, professional skills, and life/work integration. The ER Immerse program utilizes a hybrid training approach incorporating simulation-based didactic components into authentic training experiences with live patients. The curriculum is designed using an evidence-based strategy identifying competencies and skills deemed essential for a successful career as an emergency clinician. Program Details
The program duration is 6 months, beginning June 2026, with an optional rolling start date. Highlights of Our ERi Program
Dedicated mentorship from day one : You’ll always be scheduled with a mentor during your early shifts to provide hands-on support and real-time feedback. No on-call. Ever.
Because your time off should be your time. Competency-based curriculum : Learn at your own pace with asynchronous modules, and reinforce your knowledge with weekly live virtual didactic rounds led by experienced emergency clinicians and educators. Specialty service rotations : ERi doctors rotate through our specialty departments to build strong relationships with specialists, gain comfort with consultations, and learn how to set clear client expectations during ER-to-specialty transfers. Monthly live CE events : Led by board-certified specialists and certified technicians, these sessions provide a platform for our entire team to grow and learn together. Robust Education Department : While focused on developing our technical staff, this department plays a key role in elevating patient care across the hospital. Unmatched specialty support : AVES is proud to have the most specialists under one roof in Austin, including the only anesthesiologist and the soon-to-be only radiologist in the city. About AVES
