About the role Forterra is seeking a State Estimation Engineer to join our team in developing robust and innovative localization systems for autonomous systems. The ideal candidate has a strong software development background coupled with deep expertise in linear algebra, computational mathematics, state estimation, and GNSS/INS systems. What you'll do Design, develop, and implement state estimation algorithms for GNSS/INS-based systems. Utilize sensor fusion techniques to combine data from multiple sources, including GNSS, IMUs, and other navigation sensors. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand system requirements and develop high-performance solutions for navigation and positioning in dynamic environments. Test and evaluate performance of software both in simulation, data playback, and on-vehicle. Travel occasionally to support on-site vehicle testing. Qualifications Strong proficiency in Kalman filtering (Extended Kalman Filters, Unscented Kalman Filters, etc.) and other real-time state estimation techniques. Familiarity with GNSS/IMU/INS algorithms, sensor calibration, and error modeling. Strong background in linear algebra, computational mathematics. Proficiency in programming languages such as C++, Python, and/or MATLAB. Preferred Qualifications Experience developing localization/navigation systems for a variety of vehicles, including large trucks and small skid steer vehicles. Familiarity with industry-standard navigation software and hardware tools. Education & Experience B.S., M.S., or Ph.D. in Engineering or related field. 5+ years of relevant engineering experience. US Salary Range $140,000—$210,000
The salary range for this role is an estimate and is based on a wide variety of compensation factors. The salary offered to candidates will vary based on a variety of factors including (but not limited to) relevant work experience, education, specialized training, critical expertise, and more. Equity in Forterra is included in most of our full-time, high-demand roles and is therefore considered part of Forterra’s overall compensation package. In addition to base salary and equity, Forterra offers competitive benefits for full-time employees including: Premium Healthcare Benefits: Three plan options, including an HSA-eligible plan, with Forterra covering 80% of the plan premium for you and your dependents.
