Job Description
Schaffer Associates is recruiting for a
Purchasing and Inventory Control Manager
for a leading industrial and construction supplier for B2B customers within the manufacturing, industrial, and contractor sectors. Based in Raleigh, North Carolina, this role combines management responsibilities for both the purchasing and inventory control departments within the Company. ESSENTIAL DUTIES & TASKS General responsibilities include: Recruits, interviews, hires, and trains new staff. Oversees the daily workflow and schedules of the department. Conducts performance evaluations that are timely and constructive. Handles discipline and termination of employees in accordance with company policy. Develops and implements policies and procedures related to purchasing and inventory control with a goal to maximize efficiency and optimize workflow. Purchasing Responsibilities Developing the Company’s procurement rules and regulations Planning and overseeing the work of the procurement specialists (steel and MRO) Working with the procurement specialists and product management team to evaluate suppliers with a scorecard system and consolidate our list of active suppliers Working with the procurement specialists and product management team to negotiate new and additional rebates Communicates with suppliers to resolve problems that may arise regarding delivery, quality, price, or conditions of sale. Performs other duties as assigned. Inventory Control Responsibilities Managing the organization’s inventory in support of sales activities and financial objectives Maintains knowledge of trends, prices, buyers, and delivery conditions to anticipate future material availability; directs purchasing programs accordingly. Ensuring that all inventory is monitored within the ERP system Collaborating with sales, procurement, finance, and logistics Leading in the development, implementation, and support of inventory management / supply chain initiatives and capabilities that support overall company goals. Maintaining 95% inventory accuracy in all classes of inventory through detailed tracking and strict cycle counting procedures. Demonstrating creative problem solving in investigating inventory variance, determine root cause and implement corrective actions while thinking along unconventional lines. Working in a timely, efficient manner to meet all daily performance objectives. Performs other duties as assigned. EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS Bachelor’s degree in Business or related field; completed coursework in purchasing and/or inventory control management required. Experience of buying or purchasing required with supervisory experience preferred. OTHER SKILLS & ABILITIES Excellent interpersonal skills, such as being a team player and an outstanding communicator Outstanding organizational and time management skills Strong leadership skills Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or related software, as well as inventory software Knowledge of procurement software and tools Ability to travel from time to time to visit vendors or different company locations Schaffer Associates is an equal opportunity employer and welcomes applications from diverse candidates.
