We are seeking a
CRNA.
This position reports jointly to the Clinical Lead CRNA and the Division Chief of Nurse Anesthesia (Chief CRNA). Primary clinical responsibilities include the administration of intravenous, inhalation and other anesthetics to patients in an operating room and observing the physiological condition of patients while under anesthesia. In conjunction with these primary responsibilities, we evaluate each assigned patient's physical state and plan the course of anesthesia, obtain, assemble, operate, and/or monitor anesthesia equipment, and ensure that all necessary supplies, drugs, and anesthetic agents are available. Specific Duties & Responsibilities Independently research new or unknown procedures, diseases, medications, and equipment. Function within safe parameters for quality patient care, seek assistance from the attending anesthesiologist when appropriate, use critical thinking skills, and adapt to changes as necessary. Apply knowledge of pre‑op, intra‑op, and post‑op procedures effectively under normal and emergency conditions. Demonstrate technical competence and employ dexterity when performing anesthetic procedures. Understand all anesthetic equipment used in the JHH OR, use items to full advantage, and handle equipment carefully. Set up all necessary equipment for a successful anesthetic course. Pre‑Anesthesia Assessment & Case Preparation Perform and document timely pre‑anesthesia assessments. Review medical history, including anesthesia, drug, and allergy history. Perform a focused physical examination (heart, lungs, airway, ASA classification). Plan for anesthesia care. Obtain anesthesia‑informed consent. Collaborate and consult with the attending anesthesiologist before the start of the case on the plan for anesthesia care (general, regional, combined, local, and sedation techniques) when applicable. Anticipate key procedures and ensure an anesthesia environment (supplies & equipment, including anesthesia machine check, fluid warmers, blood, special items) necessary to carry out the plan. Order and administer pre‑anesthetic medications and fluids. Intra‑Op Assessment Select, apply, and insert non‑invasive and invasive monitoring devices. Select and administer anesthesia, sedation, adjuncts, and accessory drugs and fluids. Manage patient airway and pulmonary status. Demonstrate understanding of relevant clinical issues, recognize priorities, and be aware of own limits. Use appropriate tests and procedures. Maintain effective communication with the team (intraoperative personnel & attending anesthesiologist), including briefing and debriefing discussions. Facilitate emergence, recovery from anesthesia, and transport to the recovery area, providing a thorough report to the receiving unit in a timely manner. Post‑Anesthesia Evaluation & Management Implement acute and chronic pain management. Perform and document timely post‑anesthesia evaluation and discharge patient from recovery when appropriate. Provide a complete report of the patient's anesthetic course and any pertinent information needed to accurately transfer care of the patient. Facilitate room turnover in a timely fashion (room, medicine, and equipment prep, pre‑op assessment). Provide medical services according to the JHM Service Standards, including Patient Relations, Self‑Management, Teamwork, Communications, Ownership/Accountability, and Continuous Performance Improvement. Minimum Qualifications Completion of a nurse anesthesia program approved by MD Board of Nursing. If program was completed after 1/1/08, a Master's Degree is required. Current MD State RN and CRNA license. Current CPR certification and ACLS required. Credentialing prior to start date required. Additional education may substitute for required experience, and additional related experience may substitute for required education beyond a high school diploma/graduation equivalent, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.
