Overview
The Underwriter IV (UW IV) position is responsible for reviewing and underwriting loan requests under Commercial Credit Policy up to TCL $10MM. Underwriting and recommendations should be based on sound credit judgment with particular emphasis on adherence to credit policy and requirements, bank’s risk culture, financial analysis/modeling, risk evaluation and mitigation and proper loan structuring. Responsibilities
Underwrite and recommend for approval to Credit Officers within SLAs and meeting production requirements. Expected high degree of technical competency in credit analysis. Independently interact with Senior Management, Sales Team, and Credit Officer to discuss and resolve risk-related issues. Independently review financials, proposed loan structure, collateral and due diligence and make recommendations for new money requests for approval. Aggressively seek alternative means of financing or counter offers for all borrowers when the original request cannot be accommodated. Perform the functions of the position with periodic oversight and are expected to perform with reasonable to general supervisory intervention. Responsible for underwriting simple and complex relationships within the group. Portfolio Manager IV (PM IV) responsibilities
Responsible for effective credit administration with emphasis on adherence to credit policy, financial analysis/modeling, risk evaluation, and ongoing portfolio maintenance activities. Ensure overall portfolio performance and asset quality remains strong and independently address and develop strategies to resolve issues that could increase risk or create loss for the Bank. Escalate high-risk situations in a timely manner. Manage relationships with TCL between $1MM - $10MM, with emphasis on the larger (>$3MM) more complicated relationships. Expected high degree of technical competency in credit analysis. Interact independently with Senior Management, Sales Team, Credit Products Manager, Credit Officer and CRM to discuss and resolve risk-related issues. Review financials independently and make recommendations for approval of annual review/renewal and/or modifications within delegated lending authority. Primary Responsibilities
Credit Analysis & Stewardship
Evaluates appropriateness of loan structure with Relationship Managers and Credit Product Manager as needed to meet client needs for new loans while ensuring the Bank’s credit risk profiles are maintained. Protects and preserves the integrity of the Bank’s risk appetite while accurately assessing and managing risk. Ensures compliance with Commercial Credit Policy and Risk Acceptance Criteria. Maintains high quality credit file documentation in a paperless environment. Applies credit skills, product knowledge, industry analysis, and sound judgment to assess and manage credit risk effectively. Exhibits knowledge of various types of loan terms, structures, and conditions and understanding of loan documentation. Portfolio Manager IV: Protects and preserves the integrity of the pooled or individual portfolio while accurately assessing and managing risk, and managing the annual review process by means of recommendation. Applies credit skills, product knowledge, industry analysis, and sound judgment to assess and manage credit risk effectively. Exhibits knowledge of various types of loan terms, structures, and conditions and understanding of loan documentation. Consistently adheres to all regulatory compliance requirements. Accurately test covenants, and recognize various events of default while assisting with the recommendation and implementation of strategy and action planning. Workflow
Underwriter IV Actively and effectively manage multiple clients and transactions to meet production expectations as measured by goal setting metrics, with production commensurate with type and complexity of underwriting package. Consistently adhere to all Service Level Agreements. Credit experience and skill set with moderately complex credits, organizations, documentation, covenant structures and/or collateral structures. Portfolio Manager IV - for PM assigned portfolios: Effectively maintains high quality credit file documentation in a paperless environment. Effectively tracks and monitors financial statement requirements; reviews Borrowing Base certificates. Consistently adheres to all Service Level Agreements when customers require modifications or collateral release, etc. Internal Colleague & External Client Communication
Exhibits comprehensive written and verbal communication skills. Regularly interacts with and develops relationships with existing Relationship Managers (RM) and Credit Product Managers. Duties may include mentoring junior colleagues. Proactively builds relationships within the department and across business units. Shows ability to make recommendations to Credit Officers around credit decisions. Develops an understanding of cross-sell services and can convey benefits of such on assigned portfolios. 5+ years of experience with a high degree of technical competency in commercial lending/portfolio management. Experience with financial analysis and credit structuring, understanding and applying credit policy, and credit monitoring and risk administration practices. High level of credit and documentation experience. Skilled in proposing, negotiating and recommending credit and covenant structures for approval. Demonstrates practical and conceptual knowledge of credit and risk analysis. Education
