The Registered Professional Nurse at Northside Hospital independently plans and provides professional nursing care to patients in accordance with physician orders, established guidelines, and the scope of practice as defined by the Georgia Nurse Practice Act. According to the American Nurses Association's (ANA) Nursing: Scope and Standards of Nursing Practice, 3rd Edition (2015), nursing involves the protection, promotion, and optimization of health and abilities, prevention of illness and injury, facilitation of healing, alleviation of suffering through diagnosis and treatment of human responses, and advocacy for individuals, families, groups, communities, and populations. The scope of practice depends on the nurse's education, experience, role, and the population served.

Northside Hospital employs a sequential progression for Staff Registered Nurse positions, from Nurse I to Nurse VI. Each level reflects increasing knowledge, skills, competencies, and critical thinking abilities.
Minimum Qualifications:
Graduate of an accredited nursing school and licensed as an RN in Georgia in good standing without limitations.
Hold American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree.
Additional Life Support certifications (e.g., ACLS, PALS, NRP) or other clinical specialty certifications relevant to specific units.
Visual color acuity, depending on role and unit requirements.
