American Fruits and Flavors continues to grow and so are the great opportunities within! We are currently looking for an R&D Product Development Manager to join our winning team. The R&D Product Development Manager must be a "critical thinker" who can operate with autonomy, embrace accountability, and have a mindset for continuous improvement. General Description of Duties The R&D Product Development Manager analyzes and oversees improvements on all product development projects, including new and existing products utilizing raw materials. Matches products supplied by customers and internal personnel with competitors. Calculates costing and suggested selling prices for all developed products. Directs the evaluation and testing of prototypes. Assists in organizing all product development projects with other managers and leads within the department. Supervises and guides the work of all R&D Product Development Chemists and Lab Technicians. Maintains positive working relationships with internal departments such as Quality Control, Analytical, and Production, as well as external partners, to ensure resource availability, compliance with Q.C. procedures, and analytical testing standards. Communicates effectively to foster good relationships and achieve performance standards.

Essential Job Functions

Manages and oversees all product development within the department.

Develops new and existing products, including Juice Concentrates, Flavors, and Beverage Bases, based on customer or in-house requirements with minimal supervision.

Provides guidance and support to the R&D staff.

Assesses project feasibility considering production capacity, technology, and equipment limitations.

Performs cost analyses and suggests appropriate selling prices.

Ensures Master Formulas and compounding instructions are properly documented.

Reviews and approves all product specification sheets.

Communicates with customers' technical staff to understand requirements and ensure developed products meet or exceed expectations.

Ensures all products meet SQF (Safe Quality Food) standards.

Provides technical support to customers and sales staff, including on-site assistance and troubleshooting.

Monitors the transition of new products from lab to production to maintain quality.

Performs other duties and special projects as required.

Requirements

B.S. in Food Science, Technology, Nutrition, or a related/equivalent field.

Minimum of 4 years supervisory and/or management experience, with some management training.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite; good math skills up to algebra.

Effective written and verbal English communication skills.

Willingness to report to any AFF facility as needed, primarily our San Fernando location.
