Scope of Work
Performs a variety of routine or specialized tests and procedures for use by physicians in diagnosis and treatment of patients in areas such as Chemistry, Hematology/Coagulation, Immunohematology, Histocompatibility, Flow Cytometry, Molecular Pathology, Ancillary Testing, Microbiology, and other specialty departments.
Qualifications
Baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited college/university with 16 semester hours (24 quarter hours) in biology, including microbiology, and 16 semester hours (24 quarter hours) in chemistry, including organic or biochemistry. These may be obtained within or in addition to the degree. Completion of an NAACLS-approved clinical laboratory program or at least three months of documented laboratory training in each specialty for high complexity testing.
Proof of clinical internship completion (e.g., NAACLS accredited program, hospital-based or university-based). Certificate of completion or “Clinical Practicum” designation on transcript.
Official ASCP BOC approval (email letter) confirming eligibility to take the certification exam.
Completion of a NAACLS-accredited clinical internship or equivalent experience/training as approved by Lab Administration.
Certifications such as ASCP Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS(ASCP)), Medical Technologist (MT(ASCP)), International Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS(ASCPi)), Technologist certifications (BB(ASCP), C(ASCP), H(ASCP), I(ASCP), M(ASCP), MB(ASCP)), or AMT Medical Technologist (MT(AMT)). Additional certifications may be reviewed with HR and department.
