The Virginia Military Institute Center for Cadet Counseling is seeking a mental health professional to join our team in Lexington, VA.
Here’s what you need to know about the role:
No military experience is necessary.
This is a full-time 11-month position.
You’ll work Monday – Friday 8am-4:30pm in a comfortable work environment.
Those with professional interest and expertise in working with college students/young adult population are particularly encouraged to apply for this is full-time 11-month position.
Job Duties:
Provide short-term individual counseling
Conduct intakes and psychological assessments
Provide substance abuse assessments and psychoeducation group
Provide consultation services with faculty, staff, parents, and cadets
Develop, implement, and evaluate outreach programming for the Corps and assist with cadet health and wellness education and activities.
Assist with cadet retention activities
Provide crisis assessment, counseling, and interventions
Provide on-call after-hours coverage on rotating basis with other clinical staff
Remain involved with local/regional/state/ national organizations related to the department
Follow record keeping guidelines and adherence to professional standards and codes of conduct
Committee service as assigned
The performance of other functions assigned by the Director that contribute to the service offerings of the CCC and the academic mission of the Institute.
Minimum Qualifications:
A Master’s degree in clinical or counseling psychology or closely related field
Licensed or license eligible within the next 2 months in the Commonwealth of Virginia
Demonstrated understanding of adherence to ethical codes and applicable state and federal laws regarding the provision of mental health services.
Supervised experience in a mental health setting
Additional Considerations:
A Doctorate degree in clinical or counseling psychology
Previous training and experience in a college or university counseling center
Well-developed counseling and crisis intervention skills
A collaborative spirit of warmth, acceptance, respect, and trust towards colleagues
The energy to flexibly manage the professional demands of a challenging caseload while maintaining positive and healthy perspectives and relationships.
A self-motivated, self-directed commitment to high professional ideals
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Licensure as a clinical psychologist, Social Worker, or professional counselor in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
