Job Summary
This role supports healthcare teams by assisting with both clinical and non-clinical patient services under the direction of healthcare providers. Key responsibilities include taking vital signs, documenting patient information, scheduling appointments, and managing patient flow.
Essential Functions
Interview patients to obtain medical information and measure their vital signs, weight, and height.
Show patients to examination rooms and prepare necessary equipment for healthcare providers.
Record patients' medical history, vital statistics, or information such as test results in medical records.
Perform general office duties, such as answering telephones, taking dictation, or completing insurance forms. Acts as a liaison with other departments and advocates for patients with a positive customer service approach.
Collect blood, tissue, or other laboratory specimens, log the specimens, and prepare them for testing.
Prepare treatment rooms for patient examinations, keeping the rooms neat and clean and supplies stocked.
Clean and sterilize instruments and dispose of contaminated supplies.
Qualifications
Education: High School Diploma or Equivalent required. Can this role accept experience in lieu of a degree? No.
Licenses and Credentials: Basic Life Support (BLS Certification). Certified Medical Assistant preferred.
Experience: Direct MA experience or medical field work 0-1 year preferred.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Strong interpersonal and communication skills; Ability to prioritize tasks in complex and busy environments; Accuracy and attention to detail; Comply with privacy rules; Ability to take vital signs and collect specimens; Comprehensive medical terminology knowledge; Proficiency in EHR systems; Logical reasoning; Time management.
