The Simulation/Standardized Patient (SP) Educator in the Program of Nursing (PON) at Tulane University plays a crucial role in advancing clinical and simulation-based education under the direction of the Director of Curriculum & Academic Affairs and key program leadership. This position is responsible for collaborating with faculty, clinical instructors, and simulation operations staff to design, implement, and evaluate simulation activities that enhance clinical competence, clinical judgement, and interprofessional communication skills. The Simulation/SP Educator works with faculty across the PON and in partnership with departments at Tulane University School of Medicine (TUSOM) to integrate simulation into curricula. In this role, the incumbent will develop and coordinate tailored simulation curricula that meet the educational needs of nursing students and interdisciplinary learners, while aligning with institutional and programmatic goals. Responsibilities include creating learning objectives, designing case scenarios, facilitating debriefings, managing standardized patient (SP) programs in collaboration with the Tulane Medicine Standardized Patient Program, and developing evaluation tools to assess learner performance and program outcomes. Active participation in faculty development to enhance faculty skills in teaching with simulation and curriculum design is expected. This position works in collaboration with the PON Director of Curriculum and Academic Affairs and the TUSOM Curriculum Inventory Team to ensure simulation learning objectives are aligned with course objectives and expected program outcomes. The Simulation/SP Educator will also assist in supporting research efforts within the Simulation Center, ensuring compliance with research protocols. This position will contribute to academic scholarship through publications and presentations at regional and national conferences showcasing simulation initiatives while playing a key role in fostering a culture of excellence in simulation-based education across nursing and interdisciplinary programs.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
• Proficiency in simulation-based education, including scenario design, facilitation, debriefing, and standardized patient management.
• Strong collaboration and communication skills to work effectively with interdisciplinary teams across nursing and medical education.
• Experience in curriculum development and learner assessment aligned with healthcare education standards.
• Working knowledge of clinical practice standards, patient safety, and integration of technologies.
• Ability to manage multiple projects, coordinate simulation events, and contribute to research and scholarly activities.
Required Education and/or Experience
• Minimum of 2 years work experience in nursing practice
• Minimum of 1 year of experience in simulation or related experience
Preferred Qualifications
• Minimum of 1 year of teaching experience within a nursing program
• DNP or PhD in nursing or related field
• Experience with Laerdal simulation equipment and manikins
Compensation Information
This position is classified as "exempt, salaried" and is assigned to pay grade 26.
