Overview

IonQ is developing the world\'s most powerful full-stack quantum computer based on trapped-ion technology. We are pushing past the limits of classical physics and current supercomputing technology to unlock a new era of computing. Quantum computing has the potential to impact every area of human society for the better. IonQ\'s computers will soon redefine industries like medicine, materials science, finance, artificial intelligence, machine learning, cryptography, and more. IonQ is at the forefront of this technological revolution. We are looking for a Senior Physicist with experience in ion trapping and experimental control to develop quantum computing photonic interconnects testbeds. The successful candidate should have experience in physics, hardware and software for building, testing and operating ion trap-based quantum systems. Experience with quantum optics and single photon experiments is preferred. Also beneficial is experience with picosecond pulsed laser systems and supporting acousto- and electro-optical systems. As a member of the Quantum Interconnects department of IonQ, you\'ll be part of an interdisciplinary team whose mission is to lead IonQ on its journey to build the world\'s best quantum computers to solve the world\'s most complex problems. Responsibilities

Planning and execution of trapped ion physics experimental designs with core understanding of laser-atom interactions. Independently and collaboratively develop testbeds for early-stage investigation of new optical designs, hardware testing and experiments to advance IonQ quantum computing. Operate and characterize control loops used to lock laser frequency and power parameters in experimental design. Design, build and instantiate drivers, algorithms and execution scripts to instantiate and optimize operations, calibrations and system automations. Regularly employ best engineering practices for independent and cross-functional activities with software, electronics, optical, opto-mechanical engineers, and physicists to develop/deliver system requirements and integrate new technology into ion traps. Deliver high-quality work product where decisions and actions impact and influence the effectiveness of overall team. Communicate and align regularly with project management and technical leadership to ensure on-time delivery of stated requirements. Qualifications

MS/PhD in experimental physics or related field, with graduate-level experience in ion trapping. 6+ years of professional experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience with design-of-experiment and control of complex laser and optical systems. Deep understanding of atomic and trapped ion physics. Experience in physics simulations of trapped ion quantum systems (e.g., QuTiP). Experience with controlling experiments and components and interfacing systems and components to local area networks using Python and JavaScript. Experience running atomic simulations using QuTiP. Experience designing, writing software for and running AMO systems and experiments that use complex laser light pulse sequences. Demonstrated experimental experience with one or more of the following specialties: quantum computing, quantum networks, atomic physics systems, diffraction limited optical systems, lasers, fiber components and fiber coupling, light control and modulation (AOMs, EOMs), quantum sensors, atomic clocks, vacuum systems. Additional Fit

5+ years of experience with bringing up and running ion trapping experiments 5+ years of experience with AMO experimental control Experience using the Artiq or similar framework to control quantum hardware 5+ years of experience in applying research to relevant industry problems Engineering or systems engineering experience in transforming a complex physical system into a product Location
