Job Summary
Automotive Technician II must have a strong background in automotive service and repair with at least two years of professional experience. This position is vital for diagnosing and fixing vehicle issues, completing routine maintenance, and ensuring all repairs meet top quality and safety standards, with an emphasis on diesel vehicles and buses.
Essential Functions
Perform maintenance and repairs on light duty steering and suspension systems. Service and repair light duty braking systems. Conduct comprehensive vehicle maintenance, including oil changes, fluid checks, and tune-ups. Carry out a variety of light duty repair services. Perform detailed multi-point inspections to diagnose issues and recommend services. Handle diesel engine maintenance (e.g., oil services, filter changes), not including major repairs. Conduct inspections and basic service on automotive HVAC systems. Identify mechanical problems, often by using computerized diagnostic equipment. Test parts and systems to ensure that they are working properly and that repairs are effective. Follow checklists to ensure that all critical parts are examined. Disassemble and reassemble parts as required for repair and maintenance.

This job operates in a professional service center environment. This role routinely uses standard equipment.
Physical Demands
May work indoors or outdoors, but more commonly work indoors. Are often exposed to hazardous situations, conditions, and equipment that result in cuts, bruises, or minor burns. Work inside enclosed vehicles, such as buses and vans. Often working in cramped workspaces underneath vehicles requires getting into awkward positions. Regularly wear protective gear, such as goggles or earplugs. Are exposed to contaminants, such as antifreeze and chemical degreasers, daily. Are exposed to sounds and noise levels that are distracting and uncomfortable daily. May sometimes work in cold or hot temperatures, depending on the work locale. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; talk or hear. The employee must occasionally lift or move office products and supplies, up to 50 pounds.
Education/Experience/Certifications
High School diploma or GED. 2-5 years of mechanical experience. Must have most tools to complete jobs within their description.
Preferred Education/Experience/Certifications
Experience with vehicle alignments is a plus. ASE certifications are a plus. DOT inspections are a plus. MVI license is a plus. A/C certifications are a plus. CDL preferred or obtainable within 6 months.
