Brief Summary of Work for this Position: The Athletics Mental Performance Consultant will provide mental performance services to student‑athletes and coaches within the UNCW Athletic Department. This role supports the holistic development of student‑athletes by enhancing mental skills for performance, resilience, and well‑being. The Mental Performance Consultant will collaborate with Athletic Department staff to foster a culture of mental wellness and peak performance.

Provide individual and team mental performance services.

Develop and deliver workshops on topics such as confidence, focus, motivation, self‑talk, visualization, goal setting, and stress management.

Collaborate with athletic trainers, coaches, and sports performance staff to integrate mental performance strategies.

Maintain appropriate records and documentation in accordance with ethical standards.

Participate in interdisciplinary meetings and contribute to student‑athlete support initiatives.

Refer student‑athletes to licensed mental health professionals when clinical issues arise.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

Certified Mental Performance Consultant (CMPC) through the Association for Applied Sport Psychology (AASP).

Master's or Doctoral degree in sport and performance psychology, exercise psychology, or related field.

Experience working with collegiate student‑athletes or in high‑performance environments.

Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.

Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends as needed.

Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills & Experience:

Experience with athletic populations and inclusive practices.

Familiarity with NCAA policies and collegiate athletic culture.
