Genetics Practice Details: Sanford Health is seeking a BE/BC Medical Biochemical Geneticist. BE/BC Medical Geneticist with experience in management of biochemical disorders are encouraged to apply. A medical biochemical geneticist will diagnose, medically treat and manage individuals with inherited metabolic conditions presenting clinically from infancy through adulthood. The sub-specialist provides direct care and consultative care for individuals of all ages who are diagnosed with inborn errors of metabolism. Join 3 clinical geneticists, 1 NP, and genetic counselors. Research opportunities available, if desired. Pediatric Residency Program, allowing for a faculty appointment through the Sanford School of Medicine, academic appointment available through Sanford School of Medicine, commensurate with experience. Genetic Counseling Program started in 2016 with a joint effort between Sanford Health and Augustana University. Job Description: Medical Genetics Core Privileges include the ability to perform history and physical examination, admit, evaluate, diagnose, and provide treatment of patients of all ages with genetic or possibly genetically linked diseases or disorders by using molecular genetics, cytogenetic, radiologic, and biochemical testing to assist in specialized genetic counseling and implementing needed therapeutic interventions and prevention through prenatal diagnosis. Qualifications: M.D. or D.O. degree. Experience can be demonstrated in one of the following ways and should be reflective of the privileges being requested: An applicant who has just completed a residency shall provide his/her residency or fellowship log. An applicant who is not applying directly out of a residency or fellowship shall provide a quality profile from hospital(s) where he/she currently has privileges showing his/her clinical activity for the past 12 months, including numbers of procedures, morbidity, mortality, infection rates, and other complications. The applicant must be able to demonstrate active involvement in 25 Medical Genetics cases in the past 12 months. If a quality profile is not available from the hospital(s) where the applicant currently has privileges, documentation of the applicant’s clinical activity for the past 12 months is required. The applicant must be able to demonstrate active involvement in 25 Medical Genetics cases in the past 12 months. More education and experience may be required the more advanced the practice becomes. Successful completion of an ACGME-residency program in a primary medical specialty followed by successful completion of an accredited ACGME residency in clinical medical genetics OR successful completion of a four-year ACGME accredited residency program in clinical medical genetics. Training at residency and fellowship programs accredited by organizations other than the above may be considered via the waiver of eligibility process as defined in the Credentialing Policy. Certification by the appropriate specialty board of the American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS), the American Osteopathic Association (AOA), or the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, as applicable. Those applicants who are not board certified at the time of application but who have completed their residency training within the last five years shall be eligible, however must achieve board certification within five years from the date of completion of their residency training unless such requirement waived by the appropriate governing Board.
