Overview
Technical Manager Manufacturing Engineering - Forging
Utilizes broad forging knowledge and experience to develop and select manufacturing techniques, processes, machinery and automation to maximize throughput and reduce waste. Manages the implementation of new processes, selection of equipment to be purchased, project budgets and timelines. Identifies and resolves issues with manufacturability, forge press lines, and automation. Monitors, improves and leads maintenance systems and larger scale repairs. Leads the discovery and adoption of new technologies and processes to achieve greater efficiency.
Responsibilities
Identifies issues and potential improvements to processes, equipment and tooling.
Follows engineering systems, process control and change management practices
Researches and evaluates advanced technology in forging equipment and processes
Assists plants in providing references and resources for training engineers, operators and maintenance personnel.
Takes a lead role in major forging equipment and manufacturing line projects including up front analysis of investment, plant selection, business case and timing
Leads the subsequent project execution from start to finish using all AAM ME standards and policies
Leads initiatives to improve plant maintenance systems and controls
Manages complex press line repairs, including selection of suppliers and repair techniques
Completes new part or process change projections by selecting the proper forging equipment, tooling, materials, process flow, running rates, control plans, investment, return, and savings.
Oversees forge process development, quality assurance and launch of new products
Protects organization value by keeping information accurate and confidential as appropriate.
All other duties as assigned.
Required Skills and Education
Bachelor's degree in Engineering / Engineering Technology
Minimum of 8 years of direct manufacturing / engineering experience in a forging operation
Willing to travel up to 50%
Preferred Skills and Education
Moderate CAD skills, preferably NX
Good verbal and written communication skills
An ability to interact and build relationships effectively across all levels in an organization
Self-starter who takes initiative
