Job Title and Location Senior Bridge Engineer – Baton Rouge, Louisiana
Responsibilities
Lead and coordinate engineering design efforts by guiding junior and mid-level engineers and collaborating with CADD teams to develop plans, specifications, and estimates for preliminary and final design of steel and concrete bridges, walls, culverts, and sign structures.
Identify and understand technical requirements, implement engineering principles to develop solutions, determine staffing needs, and execute projects while ensuring quality control.
Ensure familiarity with Louisiana DOTD standards and procedures; align design solutions with agency requirements, contract documents, and multidisciplinary coordination.
Engage directly with clients and stakeholders to discuss project progress, technical requirements, and design solutions.
Prepare technical reports, including bridge condition reports, structural evaluation memos, feasibility studies, and other project documentation.
Participate in technical meetings to strategize solutions to complex problems and assist in developing scope, fees, project execution, and planning.
Identify technical differentiators and develop schemes for key project pursuits.
Assist in providing construction support, including reviews of shop drawings, RFIs, and other construction-related issues.
Collaborate with other bridge departments and share expertise across office locations.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Civil/Structural Engineering; Master’s preferred, PhD a plus.
Active Professional Engineer (PE) license in Louisiana; ability to obtain other state licenses is a plus.
Minimum of 10+ years of experience in structural/bridge engineering design.
Experience with Louisiana DOTD standards and procedures; familiarity with Florida DOT is a plus.
Strong theoretical and practical knowledge of structural engineering principles and bridge design methodologies.
Experience with design of multiple bridge types in concrete and steel (curved structures, retaining walls, culverts, sign structures); railroad bridges a plus.
Design experience with AASHTO LRFD, AISC, ACI, and other North American design codes; AREMA familiarity is a plus.
Proficiency in structural engineering software (CSi Bridge, SAP2000, STAAD.Pro); LEAP Bridge, MDX, LPILE for substructure and steel/girder design; proficient in Mathcad and Excel; CAD experience with MicroStation and OpenRoads/Bridge Modeler.
Ability to perform full hand calculations for verification of superstructure and substructure components.
Flexibility and Schedule Stanley’s Approach to Flexibility: We offer a hybrid schedule for eligible positions with two days in the office, two days remote, and a flexible Friday. A compressed workweek is available for eligible roles, with a 9/80 schedule giving every other Friday off.
