Job Summary:
Verifies patient identification and the procedure requested or prescribed.
Correctly interprets doctors’ scanning instructions.
Verifies patient’s pregnancy status.
Assesses patient risk for allergic reaction to contrast media prior to administration.
Reviews lab values prior to contrast media administration.
Explains effects and potential side effects of contrast media.
Starts IV and administers IV and oral contrast.
Monitors patient for reaction to contrast media.
Determines the need for and selects supplies, accessory equipment, shielding, and positioning/immobilization devices.
Provides an accurate explanation, gives instructions, and addresses questions/concerns regarding exams and procedures.
Educates the patient about the risks and benefits of radiation.
Positions patient for the anatomic area of interest, respecting patient ability and comfort.
Prepares and operates CT scan equipment.
Performs QA on images and ensures proper transfer to PACS while electronically completing the exam in a timely manner.
Selects appropriate CT radiation exposure factors using the principles of ALARA and utilizes lead protective devices appropriately.
Controls access to radiation exposure areas.
Obtains and prepares supplies, medication, and equipment for sterile and specialized interventional procedures, using sterile or aseptic technique when indicated.
Performs procedural timeout.
Patient Safety:
Each staff member is responsible for safe equipment operation and maintenance and overall patient safety. Patient schedules:
Assists lead tech in prioritizing the needs of referring physicians and patients to accommodate add-on exams into daily schedules. Protocols:
Assists in the development, implementation, and updates of protocols. CQI & QA:
Participates in yearly CQI and QA activities as approved by the Director. Patient Experience:
Responsible for improving patient experience and scores for the modality and department. Staffing & Scheduling:
Provides input on staffing schedules to meet physicians’ and patients’ needs, productivity standards, and budgets. PACS:
Ensures timely and quality transfer of images and studies to PACS and collaborates with the PACS Administrator to resolve issues. Staff Training/Orientation:
Participates in training and orientation of new employees, helping develop comprehensive, employee-centered programs. Staff Development:
Assists in teaching and skill improvement of co-workers. Regulatory Compliance:
Ensures training and readiness for compliance with DNV, CMS, and other agencies, within the scope of Montana regulations, DNV, CMS, ARRT, and ASRT. Equipment maintenance:
Communicates issues affecting equipment safety and operation, and contacts vendors/support as needed. Equipment vendors and Biomed:
Communicates regarding equipment operation and issues to leadership, biomed, or vendors. Department Projects:
Participates in projects like ACR accreditation, quality initiatives, and departmental promotion. Inventory:
Assists in ordering and managing inventory. Modality Liaison:
Maintains positive communication with other departments and staff to ensure smooth patient care. Positive, encouraging, and promotional:
Exemplifies positive interactions and promotes teamwork and morale. Other duties:
