JOB SUMMARY

The Maintenance and Transportation Supervisor

is responsible for planning, coordinating, and overseeing the district’s transportation and facilities operations. This position ensures the safe and efficient transportation of students, as well as the maintenance, repair, and operations of all district buildings, grounds, and equipment. The Supervisor leads a team of transportation staff, custodians, and maintenance personnel to create a safe, clean, and well-maintained learning environment for students and staff. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS, DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Supervise and schedule bus drivers, monitor routes, and adjust as needed to ensure safe, efficient, and reliable student transportation. Develop, analyze, and update bus routes and schedules using routing software to maximize efficiency and safety. Ensure compliance with all state and federal transportation laws, rules, and regulations. Serve as a Certified School Bus Driver Trainer, providing new driver training, annual in-service training, and ongoing safety instruction. Conduct or oversee driver training, safety drills, and vehicle inspections. Coordinate maintenance and repair of district vehicles, including buses and other fleet vehicles, maintaining accurate service records. Respond to transportation-related emergencies, concerns, and parent inquiries. Maintenance & Facilities

Oversee custodial, maintenance, and grounds staff to ensure district facilities are clean, safe, and operational. Perform and/or oversee HVAC, electrical, plumbing, carpentry, and other facility system repairs. Develop and implement preventative maintenance programs for district buildings, systems, and equipment. Prioritize and assign work orders; monitor progress and completion. Coordinate and supervise outside contractors and vendors as needed. Ensure compliance with safety, health, and environmental regulations. Leadership and Administration

Develop and manage department budgets for transportation, maintenance, and custodial operations. Maintain accurate records, including work orders, inspections, compliance reports, and inventories. Provide training, evaluation, and professional support to assigned staff. Serve as a key member of the district safety committee and emergency response planning team. Perform other duties as assigned by the Superintendent or designee. REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Required: High school diploma or equivalent; additional technical training in facilities management, transportation, or related field preferred. Valid Washington State driver’s license; CDL with school bus endorsement (or ability to obtain). Maintain and carry a valid Department of Transportation medical examiner’s certificate. Valid First Aid/CPR card Strong knowledge of building systems (HVAC, plumbing, electrical, grounds) and/or vehicle fleet maintenance. Ability to interpret and apply federal, state, and local regulations related to school facilities and student transportation. Preferred:

Minimum three years of supervisory experience in maintenance, facilities, or transportation. Diesel mechanic training or certification with experience maintaining school buses or heavy equipment. Certified School Bus Driver Trainer, with experience conducting driver training and safety instruction Experience in bus routing and scheduling, including use of routing software. Experience in a school district or public sector environment. Certification in facilities management, OSHA safety, or related fields. Demonstrated leadership and communication skills with diverse teams. KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

Ability to use effective oral and written communication skills. Ability to listen and react professionally. Ability to drive to different locations as needed. Ability to deal with staff, students and others in a warm and confident manner. Ability to remain flexible to changes in assignments or situations. Ability to follow and give instructions. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision. Ability to set priorities. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, students and community. Working Conditions

Employee must be physically able to perform the following: Lift a maximum of 60 pounds; able to maneuver and control a school bus under all driving conditions; able to use all hand/foot operated controls and equipment found on state minimum specified school buses; perform daily routine school bus vehicle safety inspections and necessary emergency roadside services; ability to evacuate students from a bus as required; provide certification of passing a physical examination every 24 months in accordance with 49 C.F.R. 391.49; complete Type I driver in-service training annually. Work is performed both indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions. Must be available for on-call emergencies outside regular working hours. Regular lifting, bending, and physical activity may be required. May require driving a multi-passenger school bus on regular routes or on special trips; may involve inclement weather; may involve dealing with difficult situations and cleaning vomit, excrement and other substances as part of emergency tasks. Employment will be contingent upon successful completion of a Washington State Patrol and FBI fingerprint background check, in accordance with RCW 28A.400.303. Must meet Washington State and district requirements for school bus drivers, including pre-employment drug/alcohol testing and participation in random testing as required by federal law. This is a full-time supervisory position

scheduled for 8 hours per day, 5 days per week (260 days per year). As a FLSA exempt position, the Maintenance and Transportation Supervisor is not eligible for overtime compensation. The employee is expected to work the hours necessary to fulfill the responsibilities of the position, which may occasionally include evenings, weekends, or emergency call-outs.
