Job Description
The Capital Projects Management Department is responsible for the engineering, planning, documentation, and construction management of Boston College’s Capital Improvement Plan. The plan includes the Annual Capital Plan and the Major Construction Plan, comprising up to 150 ongoing projects annually.
The Construction Project Manager reports to the Associate Director, Annual Capital Projects, and manages capital construction projects from planning through construction. Responsibilities include scope, schedule, estimating, budget development, risk management, procurement, contract administration, and project cost control. The CPM collaborates with consultants and stakeholders, including Facilities Management, to develop design and construction documents, maintaining quality communication using management software PMWeb to report on schedule, progress, and budget.
The role requires extensive knowledge of building, construction, and project management practices, including understanding of building envelope systems, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire alarm systems, finishes, and site utilities. The position demands strict adherence to budgets and schedules aligned with the university’s academic calendar and budgets. The candidate must be able to organize and manage internal and external teams, including design and operations staff, contractors, and consultants, with experience managing multiple projects under tight schedules.
Salary ranges vary based on experience:
5-10 years: $100K-$130K
3-5 years: $95K-$118K
Requirements
Experience in architecture, engineering, or construction management.
Experience managing facilities, renovation, and new construction projects, preferably in higher education or large institutional settings.
Bachelor’s Degree in construction, architecture, engineering, or related field.
Experience with financial and project management systems such as PeopleSoft, CAD, and PMWeb.
Ability to access all construction site areas, including climbing ladders for inspections.
Strong communication skills for written and graphic presentations.
Previous experience as an Owner’s Representative in higher education or institutional organizations is preferred.
Understanding of laboratory construction requirements, safety protocols, and building codes.
Knowledge of project delivery methods like CMR/GMP and Lump Sum.
Experience managing multiple projects with budgets up to $10 million.
Ability to prepare financial analyses and manage project budgets.
Possession or willingness to obtain a Massachusetts Construction Supervisor License within one year.
