Sappi North America – Sappi Cloquet, established in 1898, produces high-quality graphic papers used in premium magazines, catalogs, books, direct mail and high-end print advertising for the fashion, automotive and travel industries, as well as specialty papers. Cloquet manufactures Verve, a dissolving pulp used for the textile and home goods markets. Energy saving and clean water initiatives at Cloquet have won environmental recognition, aligning with the mill's commitment to sustainability. We’re looking for a driven and experienced Production Engineer to join our Market Pulp team at the Cloquet Mill. This role plays a critical part in optimizing operations, driving process improvements, and supporting technical initiatives that enhance safety, quality, and productivity. As a key contributor, you’ll collaborate with cross-functional teams to implement best practices, troubleshoot daily challenges, and lead continuous improvement efforts. Your expertise will help shape the future of our pulp operations and support our commitment to operational excellence. Qualifications
BS degree in Engineering, paper science, or equivalent and demonstrated expertise in process operations is preferred. Alternatively, candidates with 5–10 years of leadership experience in paper and pulp manufacturing with proven expertise in process operations may be considered. Understanding of market pulp operations is strongly preferred. Computer knowledge – background in Microsoft suite, Minitab, Proficy, SAP, etc. is preferred. Lean Six Sigma training is preferred. Responsibilities
Serve as a core member of the Market Pulp leadership team, working closely with the Superintendent, Area Maintenance Systems Lead, Shift Supervisors, and operating crews. Coordinate and execute trials with technical groups to meet productivity, quality, and safety goals. Troubleshoot process issues and identify actionable solutions to improve performance. Develop and maintain operator training materials, SOPs, and work instructions for all unit operations. Estimate production times and costs to support management decisions and planning. Collaborate with engineering and operations teams to align production schedules and capabilities. Apply statistical and data analysis methods to monitor and enhance process performance. Lead Lean Six Sigma projects and contribute to both capital and non-capital improvement initiatives. Plan and implement long-term enhancements to improve safety, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness. Partner with other pulp and paper operating areas to meet uptime, yield, and efficiency targets. Compensation and Benefits
