Associate Chaplain, Director for Chapel and Campus Ministries

is responsible for leading the oldest tradition and most visible ministry at Baylor, as well as nurturing other campus ministries to engage students intentionally in discipleship. By developing Chapel experiences that meet students where they are and connecting students to communities of discipleship, the Director will significantly impact the spiritual formation of Baylor students and nurture the vibrancy of Christian faith on campus. This position operates primarily on campus and will serve in person. This leader should be an experienced minister with a strong understanding of and familiarity with the Baptist tradition. While general pastoral experience and skills are necessary, gifts and expertise in administration and leadership are essential for success. The Director typically supervises three full-time employees and several graduate students. Required Qualifications: Masters in Christian Ministry or Theology Ten years of full-time ministerial experience Experience leading and supervising staff Experience with Christian spiritual formation and worship Understanding of emerging adults, their culture, and spiritual needs Appreciation of Baylor’s Baptist heritage and ability to work in a diverse denominational context Preferred Qualifications: Masters of Divinity and/or doctoral work Fifteen years of full-time ministerial experience, including at least 5 years in higher education Experience in collegiate student life The Director will lead a staff team to plan and facilitate Chapel experiences that introduce students to Christian faith and practice, fostering connections between students and communities for spiritual growth. They will create encounters that nurture student connections to God, each other, communities of discipleship, and a vocational vision, promoting an abundant life in Christ. Additionally, the Director will work with Baylor’s administrative processes to maintain the excellence and impact of Baylor Chapel and other campus ministries. As a chaplain on the Spiritual Life staff, they will minister to the Baylor community through pastoral care, teaching, worship leadership, and engagement with university constituencies. The scope includes oversight of Baylor Chapel, a historic symbol of Baylor's Christian heritage and mission. The Chapel's role is evolving to offer diverse experiences such as Chapel Online, Worship, Prayers, and Studies, with students required to earn two Chapel credits for graduation. This ministry impacts approximately 4,000 students each semester and involves extensive partnerships within the university and beyond. While primarily engaging new students, the Chapel’s reach extends to the broader Baylor community, supporting students in beginning and sustaining a journey of faith and community.
