Under the direction of the Head Athletic Trainer, this position provides sports medicine support for student athletes. The Athletic Trainer (AT) works with athletes, coaches and strength and conditioning staff to prevent, diagnose, treat, and rehabilitate injuries. The AT collaborates with physicians and other healthcare providers to ensure comprehensive care for student athletes. Appointment Information

Budgeted Salary:

$87,780/year (prorated due to the Partial Year Career appointment type). Salary is $7,315/month for 10 months. The posted salary is the amount UC Santa Cruz reasonably expects to pay; it should not be exceeded. Benefits Level Eligibility:

55% - Athletic Training Provides intercollegiate and sports club athletes with complex, advanced injury prevention training, evaluation, management and rehabilitation of athletic injuries. Applies professional concepts to provide the full range of prevention and rehabilitation of athletic injuries by means of protective and therapeutic wrappings and use of therapeutic modalities, devices, and rehabilitation techniques. Provides medical coverage to home practices, games, and some away competitions. Administers first-aid to athletes. Maintains discretion and confidentiality and handles sensitive matters involving athletic injuries and treatment. Screens and refers injured athletes to athletic team physician or other medical services as needed. 15% - Reporting and Chart Maintenance Reports injuries, completing appropriate documentation, and maintenance of medical charts. 15% - Rehabilitation Provides moderate to complex rehabilitation of athletic injuries through the use of various therapeutic exercise programs. Provides advanced manual therapy skills applicable to orthopedics and sports medicine. 10% - Administration, Travel, and Safety Works collaboratively, organizes and prioritizes work assignments and develops recommendations. Assists in developing, coordinating, and administering a comprehensive sports medical program for Intercollegiate Athletics. Performs professional and administrative services as it pertains to athletic training as assigned. Participates in student aide/intern program. Enforces safety procedures. Responsible for inventory maintenance, including clinical supplies and rehab equipment. May drive a university or personal vehicle for team travel and/or professional development. Performs other duties as assigned by the Director of Athletics. 5% - Equipment and Facility Maintenance Maintains athletic training facilities and equipment, ensuring all equipment is fully operational and training rooms are maintained to standards. Qualifications

Required Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in a CAATE-accredited athletic training education program. Computer skills in programs relevant to job duties. Thorough skills in athletic injury prevention, therapeutic modalities, first-aid, equipment, injury assessment and treatment. Ability to maintain discretion and confidentiality in handling sensitive matters. Thorough knowledge of electronic medical records systems. Knowledge of rules and standards of applicable conferences/organizations (NCAA/NAIA) for sports medicine roles and compliance with those standards. Ability to work collaboratively with athletes, team physicians, faculty, staff, and others in the athletic department. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Knowledge of procurement and campus budget requirements relating to equipment and supplies. Ability to organize and prioritize work within timelines. Strong interpersonal skills for diverse client groups. Strong manual therapy skills applicable to orthopedics and sports medicine. Preferred Qualifications Master’s degree in a related field. Familiar with evaluating proper primary insurance coverage. Special Conditions of Employment

Required to pass a pre-employment criminal history background check. Must pass employment misconduct disclosure process. Must possess a valid driver’s license for California and participate in DMV pull notice program. Professional Athletic Trainer Certification. CPR/First Aid/AED Certification or ability to obtain within 60 days of hire. Must safeguard sensitive information and comply with data protection laws and organizational policies. Ability to work long periods in wilderness conditions and travel to remote areas. Ability to work in varied conditions with potential odors, noise, dust and allergens. Ability to lift up to 60 lbs with or without accommodation. On-site work required; variable schedule including evenings and weekends. Must complete UC compliance training within established time frames. Clery Act: Campus Security Authority; must report crimes/incidents as required. Travel to multiple work locations on/off campus and within a defined regional or service area, and nationally/internationally as needed. Maintain professional appearance and conduct.
