Overview
Fortrend Engineering is seeking a Cable Assembler to join our Manufacturing and test department to build and test cables for Automation Equipment used in the Semi-conductor industry including but not limited to Wafer and Mask/Reticle handling robots, automated shipping box openers, SMIF pod and FOUP openers, Mask/Reticle transfer systems, and EFEM’s. The ideal candidate requires excellent communication skills, strong cable assembly and test skills, and electro-mechanical assembly skills are a plus.
Job Summary: In this role you will build cable assemblies and harnesses to blueprints, test the cable assemblies, and perform some light mechanical and PCB assembly/repair work.
Functional relationships: Work with Manufacturing, Electrical and Mechanical engineers, technicians, vendors, sales, marketing and other engineering personnel.
Responsibilities
Fabricates
Reads and interprets blueprints, work orders and specifications to define sequence of operations, type & size of cable fittings required, quantity and finished dimensions.
Measures & cuts cable to required length, considering cable stretch and metal flow resulting from swaging operations, using cable cutter or saw.
Assembles fittings onto cable in specified location.
Verifies dimensions of cable assembly and position of fittings using measuring instruments.
Tests holding capacity of cable assembly.
Repairs/reworks cable assemblies as required.
May form loops or splices in cables using clamps/fittings or by reweaving cable strands.
May apply lubricants or protective coatings to cable assemblies.
May operate crimping machine.
Mark identifying information on cable assemblies.
May fabricate cable templates.
PCB assembly and repair
Follow assembly instructions
Redline existing documentation relating to assembly, testing and repair
Other duties assigned
Lift up to 25 lbs
Education/Experience
A.S. Degree or equivalent with 3-5 years experience as Manufacturing Technician or Manufacturing Test Technician.
Cable assembly, crimping, soldering
PCB surface mounts and repairs
Independent, self-motivated personality with strong communications skills and problem solving attitude.
Knowledge of printed circuit assemblies; precision machined parts; and sheet metals.
Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, pneumatic schematics and mechanical drawings.
Knowledge of MS Office and proficient with Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
