Applied Technology Solutions, Huntsville, Alabama, United States, 35824
Overview
The Mechanical Design Engineer will develop innovative designs to challenging engineering problems for a wide variety of applications including but not limited to thermal-structural engineering and mechanical design. The Mechanical Design Engineer will develop detailed design criteria from customer requirements and use strong engineering principles and tools to develop robust and reliable solutions. Designs are expected to include hardware such as test fixtures, custom mechanical assemblies, pressure vessels, piping systems, weldments, etc. The Mechanical Design Engineer will regularly coordinate with engineers from other disciplines and backgrounds to ensure proper design integration. The Mechanical Design Engineer will occasionally develop CAD models and drawing packages for design solutions.
Responsibilities
Perform task lead activities to ensure proper due diligence for designs within the Mechanical Engineer’s responsibility.
Design components and assemblies such as machined components, sheet metal components, weldments, pipe routing, cable routing, 3D printed parts, injection molding parts, mechanical assemblies, electrical assemblies, etc.
Develop design documentation such as drawings, presentations, white papers, calculation packages, reports, etc.
Perform review of design documentation from other ATS and third-party engineers.
Present designs and design progress for customer review and feedback.
Perform structural and possibly aerothermal, thermal-structural, and flow analysis using hand calculations or appropriate software tools to validate mechanical designs.
Qualifications
2+ years of relevant experience
BS in engineering or related field (equivalent experience may be accepted)
Secret DoD Clearance or the ability to obtain a Secret DoD Clearance
Desired Design experience with SolidWorks, Inventor, Creo, AutoCAD, or other relevant CAD softwares
Desired Analysis experience with ANSYS or ABAQUS, CAESAR, AFT Fathom, AFT Arrow, and MATHCAD
Experience with GD&T
Experience designing custom machined components, large assemblies, and piping systems
Experience applying engineering codes and standards such as ASME BPVC, ASME B31.3, AISC 360-10, AWS D1.1, ASME Y14.5, etc.
Desired Configuration Management experience and/or experience with PDM
Drawing Check experience
