JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS: We are seeking multiple entry-level engineers to join our Systems and Emerging Capabilities Division at Penn State's Applied Research Laboratory. ARL/Penn State develops innovative solutions for national challenges supporting the Navy, DoD, and Intel communities. This position aims to train and mentor individuals to become experts in their fields. ARL is a DoD SkillBridge partner and welcomes transitioning military members to apply. You Will: Support analysis, requirements development, systems architecture, concept development, analysis of alternatives, system decomposition, detailed design, modeling, integration, testing, verification planning, and execution. Work on vehicle systems design, electrical power and controls, vehicle controls, software, or autonomy. This position can be filled at multiple levels, requiring a Bachelor's degree or higher in Engineering or Science for the professional level. Higher levels require additional experience and competencies. Additional responsibilities for higher levels include: Experience in relevant technologies such as Systems Engineering, Electrical Power and Controls, Autonomy, Vehicle Control, Software development (C/C++, Java), or In/On Water Testing of Vehicle Systems. Design, develop, and test undersea vehicles and systems for DoD programs. Perform in-water testing of software on underwater vehicle platforms. Required skills/experience: Strong engineering foundation applicable to various projects. Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously. Collaborative team worker to meet objectives. Inquisitive, proactive, eager to learn new tools and techniques. Excellent written, oral, interpersonal, and presentation skills; well-organized, independent, and comfortable working with minimal supervision in undefined problem environments. Preferred skills/experience: MATLAB/Simulink, LabVIEW, real-time software programming. CAD tools (Altium Design Suite recommended). Experience with underwater vehicle development (UUV, submarine, torpedo). Research and development experience in autonomy or naval training. Previous Navy systems development experience with unmanned systems. Active Secret/Top Secret clearance. Development of software for autonomous or unmanned systems.
