Installs or repairs water, steam, gas, or other types of pipe and pipefitting. This position is located at the United States Naval Academy. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Lay out work and measure to locate the position of pipe from drawings or other written specifications. Cut various sizes of pipe to correct lengths using chisel and hammer, oxyacetylene torch, or pipe cutting machines. Thread pipe with stocks and dies. Bend pipe by hand-driven or power-driven machines. Assemble pipe with couplings and fasten pipe to hangers. Perform standard calculations related to pressures, flow, and pipe sizing. Conduct standard tests to ensure finished pipes meet specifications. Knowledge, Experience, and Skill Requirements Journeyman Pipefitter certification required. NICET Level II certification required. Training and experience typically gained through a formal apprenticeship or equivalent. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Broad knowledge of facility operations and maintenance. Experience with Facility Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) software is highly desired. Ability to lift 50 lbs., squat, bend, stoop, kneel, climb ladders, stand for long periods, and perform constant arm extensions. Occasional exposure to elements such as heat, cold, noise, dust, dirt, chemicals, with minimal safety hazards. Disclaimer This description is not all-inclusive.
