Perform histocompatibility testing, e.g., HLA typing, HLA antibody screening, and crossmatching, in support of the Tulane Transplant and other Programs. The employee will have Quality Control and Quality Assurance responsibilities. After one year of training, the technician will apply to take the Certified Histocompatibility Technologist (CHT) exam provided by the American College of Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics (ACHI). The employee is given two attempts to pass this exam and must do so to fulfill the training plan and requirements for promotion to HLA Technologist I. If a technician has not met requirements for promotion after two years, they may not continue in this position. Applicants eligible for an HLA Technologist I (or higher) position should apply for that position. Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities • Willingness to provide on-call/overtime services is mandatory. • Knowledge of computers and common software such as word processing and spreadsheets. • Ability to communicate verbally and in writing with colleagues, providers, and other personnel. Required Education and/or Experience • B.S. or M.S. Degree in a chemical, physical, biological, or clinical laboratory science. Required Education and/or Experience • B.S. or M.S. Degree in a chemical, physical, biological, or clinical laboratory science. • Course credits must include 24 hours of medical technology courses or 24 hours of sciences, including six semester hours of chemistry and six semester hours of biology. Preferred Qualifications • Experience in histocompatibility or other clinical or research-focused laboratory testing. • Applicants meeting criteria for an HLA Technologist position may be offered that position. Compensation Information This position is classified as "non-exempt, hourly" and is assigned to pay grade 21.
