High-Volume, High-Quality Spay/Neuter / Neuter Veterinarian
STATUS Exempt
Reports To Chief Veterinarian and Veterinary Services Manager
Position Overview Hawaiian Humane Society, located on the island of Oahu, seeks a veterinarian skilled in high-volume, high-quality spay/neuter to join our spay/neuter clinic. As a leader in reducing pet overpopulation, we aim to reduce pet overpopulation and improve animal welfare in Hawaii.

Key Responsibilities
Perform spay/neuter surgeries on owned animals and TNRM cats each working day with minimal complications.
Perform other surgical procedures as needed.
Conduct pre-operative examinations and determine health/suitability for surgery.
Provide follow-up exams as needed.
Record information on animal health, treatment, medical history, and controlled substances in compliance with federal, state, local, and other regulatory guidelines.
Build effective relationships through positive interaction with clients, staff, and volunteers.
Assist in the development, implementation, and maintenance of veterinary protocols and procedures for the clinic.
Maintain reliable and on-time attendance.
Provide mentorship and training to veterinarian interns, externs, VSAs, RVTs and other staff veterinarians on HQHV procedures as needed.
Perform necropsy cases as needed.
Communicate complications to clients effectively.
Collaborate with the Chief Veterinarian on policies, procedures, processes, and training.
Align with Hawaiian Humane Society's vision, mission, core values and beliefs, and positions on animal welfare.
Perform CPR in accordance with RECOVER standards and direct the team.

Job Conditions
Work Environment:
Indoors in a typical shelter environment and outdoors in all weather. Our campuses are in Ewa Beach and Honolulu (Moiliili, near UH Manoa).
Hours:
Full-Time or Part-Time. Full-Time veterinarians work 4 days per week, 10 hours per day. Flexible scheduling. The clinic operates 7 days a week; some on-call triage support is required (DVMs share on-call duties).
Requirements
DVM or VMD degree from an accredited veterinary school
Active and unrestricted license to practice veterinary medicine in Hawaii or eligibility to obtain one
Current DEA license or ability to obtain a DEA license
2+ years of experience in a full-service, high-surgical-volume setting
Experience in a variety of surgical techniques
Demonstrated excellent surgical skills
Experience in a HQHV setting
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Ability to work well in a fast-paced environment
High attention to detail
A progressive professional philosophy that humane organizations are partners to reduce pet overpopulation and improve animal welfare
Knowledge of current trends and best practices in shelter medicine; familiarity with ASV Guidelines for Standards of Care in Shelter Medicine
Understanding of local, state, and national laws related to animal shelter agencies and veterinary authority in shelters, including infectious disease reporting
Ability to work at either campus
