Position Overview
The Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) evaluates specimens for acceptability for proper testing and performs accurate testing of specimens received in the laboratory, according to established laboratory protocol and procedures. He/She verifies the accuracy of results before reporting and reports test results in a timely manner. The MLT performs required maintenance and calibration on instruments and equipment, troubleshoots instruments, equipment, reagents, and patient specimens when problems occur. He/She complies with established laboratory and hospital policies for universal precautions, safety procedures, and exposure control/plans for bloodborne and airborne pathogens. The MLT performs phlebotomy (venipunctures, fingersticks, bleeding times) as appropriate for the patient requiring this procedure. DISCLAIMER:

Associate Degree as a Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) or related scientific discipline required by CLIA Licenses and Certifications
Licenses: N/A Certifications: Registered as a Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) by the American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or American Medical Technologists (AMT) at (or within 1 year) of job start. Experience
A minimum of one (1) year experience preferred. Reports To

Stands, turns, bends, stoops, lifts, climbs, and uses many physical motions in performing day-to-day activities. Must be able to stand for extended periods and walk extensively. May be exposed to communicable disease or radiation. Work Provisions
Work involves perceiving sounds at normal speaking levels. Must be able to communicate clearly in person and by telephone. Requires standard visual acuity. Mental demands include keen assessment and decision-making abilities, strong communication skills, emotional stability, and the ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines. Attention to detail and the ability to multi-task in complex situations are required. Must maintain collaborative and respectful working relationships within SRHS and other organizations. Special Demands:
Must possess superior customer service skills and professional etiquette. Proficient computer skills (keyboard, MS Outlook and Word) and ability to use office technology (telephone, fax, etc.). Special Capacities
Job requires traveling throughout the SRHS service area with the employee providing his/her own transportation. Must have a valid driver license. Additional Responsibilities
Work requires the ability to function independently, adapt to workload demands, set priorities and goals. Must have highly developed organizational, planning, and management writing skills. Must understand automated data processing and be able to gain a detailed understanding of complex information. Proficient knowledge of budgeting, general ledger, and financial statement preparation.
