Overview
Baylor Scott & White Medical Center - Lakeway Address: 100 Medical Pkwy, Lakeway, TX (Suburb of Austin, TX) Work Schedule: PRN - Hour shifts - 7:00 - 5:30; 3 shifts in a 6-week schedule; 1 minor and 1 major holiday Must have a minimum of 2 years Cath Lab RN experience Lakeway is located about 25 miles west of downtown Austin. Lakeway is situated on the south shore of Lake Travis in the Texas Hill Country. It is a resort community with golf courses, tennis courts, marinas, a 65-mile-long lake, 100 acres of parkland and trails, and nearly 500 acres of greenbelts. Dining options include The Oasis on Lake Travis with views of the rolling hills and sailboats on the lake. Baylor Scott & White Health Lakeway is a private, non-profit, 131-bed full-service hospital. The Medical Center is a certified primary stroke center and a certified chest pain center. Lakeway has Magnet recognition for nursing professionalism, teamwork and patient care excellence. Facilities and spaces: 3 procedure suites. 2 GE fluoroscopy units (soon to be upgraded to Philips). Siemens biplane system. 12 private room pre/post holding rooms. Procedures: Cardiology - left heart catheterization, PFO closure, STEMI/MI, mechanical device insertions, lithotripsy, thrombectomy, renal stenting, peripheral vascular, PCI. Interventional radiology - kyphoplasty, port-a-cath placements, biopsies, cryoablations, uterine artery embolization, prostate embolization, GI bleed embolization, thrombectomy, percutaneous drain placement, paracentesis, thoracentesis, fistulagrams. Electrophysiology - pacemaker, ablation, cryo-ablation, pulse field ablation. Population - varies (adult) Spacious procedure rooms support the nurse who is circulating, the scrub tech, and the physician. If equipment is needed, they have the room available. 3:1 nurse-to-patient ratio for pre/post. Techs rotate modalities and procedures. Opportunities for staff autonomy and participation in facility-based/departmental councils. Growing and developing team across vascular, neuro and structural cardiovascular procedures; opportunities to immerse in multiple modalities. JOB SUMMARY
The Cath Lab Registered Nurse (RN) is a licensed professional who coordinates patient care delivery by the health care team using the BSWH nursing professional practice model. The RN assesses the patient, identifies nursing diagnoses based on responses to health problems, develops and implements an individualized plan of care, and evaluates the patient’s response. The RN promotes safe passage for patients by ensuring smooth transitions through the healthcare encounter and minimizing preventable complications. The RN delegates interventions to health care personnel based on the Texas Nursing Practice Act, patient condition, and staff competencies. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE ROLE
Clinical Judgment: Conducts accurate clinical assessments, identifies and prioritizes patient and family needs, develops, implements and evaluates the nursing plan of care, and modifies the plan to achieve outcomes. Clinical Inquiry: Evaluates the quality and effectiveness of nursing practice, supports evidence-based practice changes, and participates in quality/performance improvement initiatives. Caring Practices: Provides a compassionate, safe and therapeutic environment; builds therapeutic relationships with patients and families; manages pain and promotes comfort and healing. Response to Diversity: Incorporates patient and family differences (culture, beliefs, gender, race, ethnicity, lifestyle, age, values) into individualized care plans. Advocacy and Moral Agency: Protects patient confidentiality, autonomy, dignity and rights; aligns care with patient/family values and goals; identifies and resolves ethical concerns. Facilitation of Learning: Facilitates learning for patients, families and staff; assesses and documents learning needs and outcomes. Collaboration: Works with colleagues and community to implement integrated care; delegates tasks appropriately and ensures follow-up. Systems Thinking: Uses available resources to solve problems; considers safety, effectiveness and efficiency in planning and delivering care.
