The Opportunity
The Accounting Manager oversees the full-cycle accounting operations of the organization, ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and timeliness of financial reporting in compliance with GAAP and nonprofit accounting standards (FASB ASC 958). This role manages daily accounting activities, month-end and year-end close processes, and supports budgeting, grants management, and audit preparation. The Accounting Manager plays a key role in maintaining effective internal controls, supporting organizational compliance, and providing financial insights to management and program leaders.
Your Role in Action | Key Responsibilities
- Oversee all aspects of the general ledger, ensuring proper recording of revenue, expenses, assets, and liabilities.
- Manage the month-end and year-end closing processes, including reconciliations, accruals, and journal entries.
Revenue, Grants, and Contributions
- Record and reconcile all sources of revenue, including donations, grants, contracts, membership dues, and program income.
- Ensure compliance with donor and grant restrictions, tracking funds in accordance with FASB and Uniform Guidance requirements.
- Collaborate with development and program teams to prepare grant reimbursement requests and financial reports for funders.
- Monitor pledges receivable and maintain restricted and unrestricted fund schedules.
Accounts Payable and Disbursements
- Manage the full accounts payable cycle, including invoice coding, approval routing, and payment processing.
- Oversee employee expense reimbursements and corporate credit card reconciliations.
- Maintain vendor records, W-9s, and ensure timely issuance of annual 1099 forms.
Payroll and Benefits Accounting
- Reconcile payroll liability accounts and benefits provider statements.
- Support salary allocations for grant-funded positions in accordance with budget and time reporting requirements.
Banking, Investments, and Reconciliations
- Perform monthly bank and investment reconciliations for all operating, reserve, and restricted accounts.
- Record investment activity and monitor cash flow needs to ensure liquidity and compliance with restrictions.
Budgeting, Forecasting, and Reporting
- Assist in preparing the annual organizational budget and periodic financial forecasts.
Audit, Compliance, and Internal Controls
- Prepare year-end audit schedules, confirmations, and supporting documentation.
- Support the preparation of the annual Form 990 and related filings.
- Maintain and strengthen internal controls to ensure financial integrity and compliance with policies and procedures.
- Stay current on nonprofit accounting standards, regulatory changes, and best practices.
Systems, Processes, and Leadership
- Maintain accounting software and ensure integration related third party systems.
- Recommend and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
What You’ll Bring to the Team
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required; CPA or CPA candidate preferred.
- Minimum of 5–7 years of progressive accounting experience, including nonprofit fund accounting.
- Hands‑on experience with Sage Intacct accounting software is required.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP, FASB 958, and Uniform Guidance (2 CFR Part 200).
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem‑solving skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and communicate effectively with non‑financial staff.
