Overview
The Accounting Manager leads the financial operations of a hotel, ensuring accurate reporting, internal controls, and regulatory compliance while driving profitability.
Responsibilities
- Manage cash flow and prepare monthly financial statements, including cash flow statements, receivables, payables, and bank deposits.
- Monitor hotel revenues and expenses, ensuring accurate recording in accordance with highgate Hotels guidelines.
- Create annual budgets, perform monthly variance analysis, investigate variances, and recommend improvement methodologies.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory licenses, permits, leases, contracts, and operational taxes.
- Analyze financial data and operations to advise management on maintaining hotel financial objectives.
- Implement and audit internal financial controls for purchasing, cash handling, disbursements, inventories, assets, master keys, payroll, and employee records.
- Coordinate internal and external audits, working with CPA firms and delivering requested information promptly.
- Hire, train, supervise, and develop staff, providing coaching, counseling, and discipline.
- Maintain compliance with hotel standards and regulations to ensure safe and efficient hotel operation.
- Prepare and direct all financial reports in accordance with highgate Hotels requirements.
- Provide weekly financial report responsibilities (A/R & A/P Aging, Flash Reports, Payroll Reports, Revenue Updates) and monthly responsibilities (Financial Statements, Forecasting KeyStatistics Report, Cash Flow) and annual responsibilities (Budgets, 5-Year Plans, 5-Year Capital Plans).
- Interact with Executive Committee members to assure property operations are on track.
- Execute special projects and other responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications
- At least 6 years of progressive hotel accounting experience; or a 4‑year college degree with an accounting/finance concentration and at least 2 years of progressive experience; or a 2‑year college degree with at least 4 years of progressive experience.
- Proficiency with Windows, approved spreadsheets, word processing, and hotel‑specific systems.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills at all employee levels.
- Strong listening, problem‑solving, and multitasking abilities.
- Commitment to highgate Hotels standards, attendance, appearance, and confidentiality.
- Ability to perform other duties as requested by management.
