Postdoctoral Associate - Center for African American Studies
Postdoctoral Associate position in African and African American Studies at Rice University. One‑year (renewable for a second year) full‑time residential appointment with a 1/1 teaching load.
Position Summary
The Center for African and African American Studies invites applications for the Dr. Anthony B. Pinn Postdoctoral Associate. The appointment runs August 1, 2026 through July 31, 2027, renewable for a second year (subject to performance review and funding). Salary is $70,000 plus a $5,000 one‑time stipend for research and/or relocation to Houston.
Responsibilities
- Teach two courses in the Center per academic year.
- Make substantial progress on research and writing projects, including manuscript development and conference presentations.
- Engage with the intellectual community, presenting work‑in‑progress to campus audiences and contributing to the Center’s curriculum in consultation with the director.
Qualifications
- Ph.D. in a humanities or social science discipline, conferred between January 1, 2023 and July 31, 2026.
- Evidence of interdisciplinary commitment and demonstrated teaching and research in African and African American Studies.
- Experience in digital humanities, medicine, law, environmental sciences, or research situated in Houston, Latin America, the Caribbean, and/or Africa.
- Research addressing African American histories of Houston, Eastern Texas, preservation, public history, and digital humanities.
