Dock Technician – EMCOR Group, Inc.

Job Summary

The Maintenance Technician completes PMs and repairs on commercial and industrial facility equipment in a safe, efficient, and professional manner. The technician is an excellent communicator and has exceptional follow‑through capabilities.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Abides by all safety guidelines including OSHA regulations, lock‑out/tag‑out, etc.
  • Conducts shift rounds – regular checks of systems and equipment to identify issues and document performance.
  • Maintains, troubleshoots, and performs minor repairs on equipment; often with guidance of more experienced techs.
  • Inspection/evaluation may include measurement of operating characteristics (speeds, pressures, vacuum, vibration) and assessment of wear, replacement of expendables (belts, hoses, fluids, filters, etc.).
  • Servicing and maintaining docks, levelers, seals, bumpers, commercial doors (automatic, hollow metal, overhead), and commercial locks and door hardware.
  • Other preventative maintenance tasks such as filter changes, condenser cleaning, oil changes, machinery lubing and greasing.
  • Repair tasks include routine building cleaning/patching/painting, basic plumbing and simple electrical repairs, and addressing client concerns (lighting, etc.).
  • Completes detailed training on life‑critical work practices related to modified confined space procedures, hazardous energy control, and required documentation process.

Documents work results in the CMMS, analyzes findings and recommends updates to the PM list.

Communicates effectively with coworkers and customer staff, ensuring all aspects of a work request are understood and the customer is adequately informed about status and expected completion dates.

May provide guidance to Sub‑Contractors of facilities services and may receive other duties as assigned by the Site Manager.

Qualifications

  • Education – High School diploma (or equivalent); preference given to those with undergraduate business or trade school training.
  • Business Experience – At least one year’s experience servicing and maintaining commercial dock levelers, doors, automatic doors, dock lock and overhead door hardware, while maintaining dock maintenance program records. Must include maintenance of pneumatic and/or hydraulic systems.
  • Preferred experience with door manufacturers: Rite Hite, Power Ramp, Nabco, Stanley Access Technology, Record USA, Tormax, Besam, Allegion Door Hardware, Assa Abloy.
  • Experience in roles requiring physical labor including mechanical, electrical, plumbing, carpentry concepts is preferred.
  • Licenses/Certs – AAADM certification preferred; must possess a valid driver’s license.
  • Language Skills – Ability to interpret various instructions (written, oral, diagram, graphic), execute repetitive tasks, write routine reports and correspondence, manage email and work order system, and speak effectively before groups of customers and employees.
  • Technical Qualifications & Skills – Use hand and small/large power tools; disassemble/reassemble HVAC and building equipment; general plumbing, electrical, carpentry skills; basic mechanical repairs; operate forklift, scissor lift, aerial lift; personal computer, cell phone, tablet; dynamic priority management; support non‑customary schedules and weekend work; strong math and problem‑solving skills.
