Secretary to the Elementary Principal – Kentwood Public Schools Join Kentwood Public Schools as the Secretary to the Elementary Principal. The role serves as the first point of contact for parents and visitors, schedules the principal’s calendar, manages inventory, assists substitute teachers, implements enrollment, and supports student enrollment and parent involvement. Responsibilities Positive first contact for parents and visitors Schedule appointments and maintain calendar for the principal and building activities Order and maintain inventory of school supplies and equipment; process purchase requisitions and supply requests Dispense medication and manage related records Assist assigned substitute teachers by defining school practice and preparing time reports Assist the principal with implementing the student enrollment process and parental involvement Interact with co‑workers, administration, students, parents and community in positive, supportive and cooperative ways Regular, reliable and punctual attendance Other duties as assigned Qualifications High school diploma in secretarial skills and procedures or 3-5 years successful experience as a secretary Associate’s degree preferred Computer experience required; working knowledge of Windows based programs required Willing and able to learn the district’s e‑mail, student records, payroll, and financial systems Excellent customer service and communication skills (verbal and written) Ability to work independently with minimal direction Excellent organizational skills, including filing and record maintenance Ability to participate as a team member in a diverse environment Work well with all employees, parents, students and community members Evidence of leadership ability Respect for confidentiality of information Able to handle diverse projects, be flexible and take initiative Demonstrated ability to work well in high stress situations Ability to work in an economically, culturally and racially diverse environment Physical and Mental Demands Physical demands: stand, walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, talk, hear, taste, and smell; occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds Mental functions: compare, analyze, communicate orally and in writing, copy, coordinate, instruct, compute, synthesize, evaluate, use interpersonal skills, compile and negotiate Work environment: noise level usually loud to moderate Application Process Submit an application, individual cover letter, and resume through the online Applicant Center.
