Director - Finance & Accounting Search at StevenDouglas Are you an expert financial leader ready to drive the financial integrity of a leading, publicly traded organization that just went through a successful IPO?
StevenDouglas has been exclusively retained by a firm that just went through a successful IPO to find their new Chief Accounting Officer. Reporting directly to the CFO with high visibility amongst the entire C‑Suite, the CAO is a critical executive leadership role responsible for all aspects of the Company’s accounting operations. The CAO will ensure the accuracy, integrity, and compliance of the Company’s financial reporting, with a strong emphasis on meeting SEC regulations and U.S. GAAP standards. This role requires a hands‑on leader who can drive process improvements, manage a high‑performing team, and partner effectively across the organization.

Key Responsibilities Include:
Ensure full compliance with U.S. Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (U.S. GAAP) and relevant SEC rules and regulations.
Oversee and direct the preparation and timely filing of all external financial reports, including Forms 10‑K, 10‑Q, 8‑K, and other required SEC filings.
Manage the internal and external audit processes, acting as the primary point of contact and ensuring all required schedules, documentation, and controls are presented accurately and promptly.
Lead the research, evaluation, and implementation of new accounting pronouncements and regulatory changes.
Serve as a key strategic business partner to the CFO, CEO, and other executive leaders, providing technical accounting expertise and financial guidance for critical business decisions.
Design, implement, and maintain effective internal controls over financial reporting (SOX compliance) and disclosure controls.
Requirements:
Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; Master’s degree preferred.
CPA (Certified Public Accountant) required.
Must have direct experience as a senior accounting leader (VP, Controller, or CAO) for a publicly traded company (ideally over $100M in revenue).
Deep understanding and practical experience with SOX (Sarbanes‑Oxley) Section 404 compliance and maintaining a robust internal control environment.
Proficiency with large‑scale ERP systems and financial reporting software. NetSuite experience highly preferred.
