Accounting/Finance search focused Executive Recruiter We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Chief Financial Officer to lead the financial strategy and operations of a rapidly growing multi-location retail services organization. This role is ideal for a hands‑on finance executive with deep expertise in scaling businesses, managing M&A, and partnering with owner‑operators. 5x/week in NJ. MUST have retail experience.
Key Responsibilities
Lead and manage a mid-sized Finance & Accounting team, overseeing month‑end close, financial reporting, and compliance.
Partner with ownership on inorganic growth initiatives, including mergers and acquisitions, due diligence, and integration.
Develop and implement location‑specific financial goals, profitability strategies, and budgeting frameworks.
Oversee cash flow management, forecasting, and capital allocation to support strategic growth.
Drive financial planning and analysis (FP&A) to support data‑driven decision‑making across departments.
Ensure internal controls, risk management, and audit readiness across all entities.
Collaborate with operations, HR, and legal teams to align financial strategy with business objectives.
Present financial insights and strategic recommendations to ownership and stakeholders.
Evaluate and implement financial systems and technologies to improve efficiency and scalability.
Lead tax planning, regulatory compliance, and external reporting.
Qualifications
CPA, MBA, or Master’s Degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field.
15+ years of progressive finance experience, including 3+ years as CFO in a multi‑location retail or retail services business (e.g., spas, salons, restaurants, clothing stores).
Proven experience managing financial operations for 25+ locations.
Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively with owner‑operators involved in daily business operations.
Demonstrated success in Private Equity environments and M&A transactions.
Experience with financial systems implementation and process optimization.
Candidates with only public accounting backgrounds will not be considered.
