The Patient Care Director (PCD) provides leadership, planning, organization in implementing and evaluating the management, administrative operations and clinical practice activities in collaboration with peers across the system, on a twenty-four hour basis. A priority of this position is for the PCD to be the Chief Retention Officer for the area and utilize principles of service excellence to achieve goals on staff development, staff satisfaction and staff retention. Provides patient reviews that are coordinated to provide a seamless, integrated system of care that is high value, cost effective and customer focused. The PCD is committed to creating a work environment that fosters pride, teamwork and continuous learning and associate ability to meet patient needs. The PCD must have knowledge of specialty services and related nursing standards and be aware of the changing health care environment locally and nationwide. Has responsibility to establish and maintain productive physician relationships and engages with medical leaders in department decision-making.

Responsibilities The Patient Care Director will collaborate with the Nursing Education Department and utilize subject-matter experts as appropriate to assist with staff education, clinical issues, and orientation development. Supports the learning and assimilation of all newly hired clinical staff within the department through weekly meetings. Accountable for the acute care environment and must create learning experiences that are open, respectful and promote the sharing of expertise. Serves as a resource to promote autonomous, effective, safe, cost-efficient, and compassionate quality care. Works collaboratively with the ED leadership team to support and provide oversight of the daily ED staffing and operations, including off-shifts and weekends; this position is accountable for managing all clinical functions within the ED on a 24-hour basis. Performs daily environmental rounds to ensure a constant state of survey readiness within the department. PCD will conduct customer service-focused leader rounding. Assist with occasional facility-supervision coverage as needed. Provide department-specific education for the nursing clinical team using evidence-based content. The PCD will perform frequent needs assessments to determine the clinical learning opportunities of the nursing staff. Monitor the clinical nursing team's adherence to best-practice guidelines through direct observation, feedback, and education. Facilitate an atmosphere of interactive management and the development of collegial relationships between nursing personnel and other disciplines, as well as with the healthcare community. Perform any and all duties as assigned.

Full Time * Day Shift

The schedule during the week will vary depending on department needs.

Qualifications Current Registered Nurse license BSN. A minimum five (5) years of clinical experience in Emergency Medicine. Minimum of 3 years of management experience required. A strong commitment to furthering institutional performance measures through interdisciplinary teamwork is essential. Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills with a demonstrated ability to orally relate complex information in a reliable fashion to both leadership and governance as well as general staff members and the medical staff. Must demonstrate a strong orientation to customer satisfaction, effective teamwork, problem solving and utilize small group dynamics in conflict management. Strong background in statistical process control and/or other quality improvement and measurement techniques necessary. Computer literacy required.
