Junior Sister/Charge Nurse Endoscopy Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust is a large acute and specialised hospital trust that provides a range of local acute services to the residents of Worcestershire and also to a broader population. The trust operates hospital‑based services from three sites in Kidderminster, Redditch and Worcester.

We are looking for an experienced nurse to join our Endoscopy Unit as a Band 6 Junior Sister / Charge Nurse. The successful candidate will work at Worcester Royal Hospital and may also travel to other sites such as Redditch, Kidderminster and Malvern.

Main duties of the job

Work in accordance with the NMC Code and relevant professional guidelines; provide a holistic, efficient Endoscopy service to the local population.

Handle complaints in line with Trust policy.

Assist in assessing staffing requirements and report issues to the appropriate manager.

Provide high‑quality nursing care, participating in assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of patient needs within Endoscopy.

Deliver compassionate, person‑centred care and treat patients, service users, families and carers with dignity and respect.

Support the Endoscopy pre‑assessment team and the emergency out‑of‑hours on‑call service.

Participate in preceptorship programmes, acting as a facilitator, mentor and role model to student and junior staff.

Develop and sustain personal knowledge, clinical skills and professional awareness in line with NMC requirements; maintain a reflective professional portfolio.

Job responsibilities

Work according to NMC Code, relevant guidelines and the 6 C's, taking responsibility for the assessment, planning and delivery of care and education for a defined patient group.

Develop, implement and evaluate care programmes, including discharge planning.

Demonstrate experience and skills in clinical practice, facilitation and teaching, and management.

Ensure effective communication with patients, relatives, carers and the multidisciplinary team.

Participate in preceptorship programmes and act as a facilitator/mentor to less experienced staff.

Provide supervision, support and education to junior staff, unqualified staff and students.

Lead and manage a patient‑centred nursing service, ensuring high standards of care.

Deputise for the Departmental Manager when absent and manage new clinics/lists and staff within the area.

Contribute to the strategic and operational development of the Unit and support recruitment, selection, sickness absence monitoring and workforce planning.

Work countywide as required and support the Directorate’s roster and workforce development.

Maintain accurate procurement and drug administration in accordance with Trust policy.

Person Specification Qualifications

Registered Nurse on sub part 1 or 2 of the NMC register.

Evidence of continuing education.

Mentoring, coaching and assessment skills.

Understanding of Endoscopy.

Recognised Leadership Course completion.
